raising 3pt hitch..

i'm apparently doing something wrong..

hooked up the log splitter this morning - had no trouble raising/lowering the 3 pt hitch. after using it for an hour, i decided to take a break, so i went to lower the 3pt hitch so i could rest the splitter on some cinderblocks.

now the 3pt hitch won't raise.

according to the manual (which by the way, STINKS), the draft position should be @ shallow, then raise/lower the hitch..

let the tractor sit for a few minutes to cool down (had been running for a few hours).. still no luck.

any ideas on what i'm doing wrong?

Check the 3PT drop/raise speed control located near the floor in front of the seat. Also check if one of the rear remote levers is stuck in other than neutral or center position. The draft control unless using it should always be in the full forward position full down

Did you add hydraulic fluid to compensate for the fluid the wood splitter consumed?

tried adjusting the speed - slow/fast, then in-between. not quite sure what the 'neutral' setting is on the rear 3pt hitch drop/raise level - but with the draft full forward (deep), and with more hydro fluid (it's just above the minimum - should probably add more), still no luck.

no change. still will not raise.

just checked the hyrdo fluid - it's at the absolute low end of the range. will add to bring it up.. good idea!

if i'm registering fluid level @ the absolute low end of the range i would guess that it would still raise..(?). going to put more in right now.

added enough to bring the hydro level up to within range.. 3pt hitch refuse to move. i noticed that the draft control is set to shallow - but even when i work both controls the 3pt hitch doesn't budge.

Maybe some air in the lines? Try moving the tractor around, use the hydraulics/FEL to circulate the fluid.

Recheck the connections for the splitter.

Make sure the quick connects are indeed connected fully. Try disconnecting the splitter altogether and see if that makes any difference.
When you hooked up the splitter, did you need to change the lever on the valve block diverter, or are you using remotes? I know on my CK20, which uses the main valve block for the backhoe, I have to move a lever on the valve block to divert fluid that way. If it's not in the proper setting, the loader won't move. I suspect there is something that needs to be adjusted. The 3pt hitch speed control wouldn't keep it from lifting, only dropping. Good luck and let us know. John

On one tractor here the spring on the draft control is inside the housing, while the levers that control the lifting is outside. This spring the 3ph would not raise no matter how much we fiddled with the lever. Got a mechanic out to look at it and the rod that goes through the housing was rusty and wasn't letting tha draft drop back to raise the arms. In your case maybe the spring is broken. The offending parts are tucked in between the lever and the housing, the one part that wasn't moving had a roller on the end that rode against the part connected to the lever. Might be worth checking out since you're right there anyway.
