So we were cutting trees and I had my brother try out the machine and it was half my fault / half his for creating a dent in my hood. I overloaded the bucket, and he's not familiar w/ the machine and a piece of oak put a nice dent in the hood. He's a veteran heavy equipment operator, so I'm surprised it happened.

Anyway -- I've got a dent and my bro really wants me to just get a new hood -- not repair it, because he feels really bad it happened and it's gonna be hard for me to get away w/o getting a new one since he's pretty bent (no pun intended) on just replacing it so it's really like new again.

Called the dealer to find out a new hood -- a stamped piece of sheet metal painted orange is $1100.00 from Kioti. No that doesn't include lights or anything else -- just the orange metal.

A rear 3 point mounted core aerator from Kioti is $1000.00 -- tons more metal and moving parts, bearings, etc. etc. and $100 less than the "platinum lined" or whatever precious metal the must be making those hoods out of.

Can one of the dealers here (DePratt?) Please take a look into this. If you can do better on the hood price, I'll buy one from you and pay shipping.

I'm just dumbfounded that about 10% of the cost of my tractor is the HOOD! What is wrong w/ this?

8% of the cost of tractor and loader ($13K or so here in the northeast) is the hood...

I'm pissed.

I was tempted to ask Kioti if I bought an aerator and hood together if they would give me a discount. $2100.00 for aerator and hood...

Curious to hear what you guys have to say about this...

First, while I understand you're upset, please remember this is a Family Friendly site. Thanks.

Second, the price of the hood doesn't surprise me. While high, it's no different than the price of automobile body parts, i.e., it's a lot more expensive to build a car from the Parts Department than to buy a completed car from the showroom. Add to this the fact there's no aftermarket parts to keep OEM prices down and a formed/stamped, painted hood has to be shipped here from overseas.

Don't get mad at me for my opinion, but how many dealers do you think would have a hood in stock, let alone the facilty in Wilson, N.C? If it had to be ordered it would probably take a month or more to get here and then there is the freight to get it here. I use my imagination and come up with the idea that, this is not that far off the mark. Do I like it, no but it seems to be reality. If it were an item that sells more often then it would be cheaper. That's my take, hope your not offended as it is not my intention.

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year

Kioti also charges almost $600 for the CK20 suspension seat. As MikePA says, all the tractor companies have learned this lesson from the car industry.

So far I have only managed to rip off one of my rear turn signals (backing the bush hog into brush between trees...oops). I was pleasantly surprised that the replacement was reasonable. I've also dented the black perforated screen on the hood (branch poked it while grappling). No repair intended beyond banging it out.

I haven't dented my hood (yet) but if I did I might be inclined to just bang it out and leave it as a war scar. Doing battle with Mother Nature will sometimes result in injuries. Wear them with pride. I can think of quite a few implements I'd rather have more than a perfect hood.

Sounds right to me, a hood for a NH TC29 is $1438, JD is $620 for just the top piece for a 3320. The JD is a 3 piece assembly, with the side panels separate, which isn't a bad idea, in my opinion. I just picked these 2 models at random, have no idea how comparable they are to the CK20.

I don't think the price is out of line. It's not so much for the price of the hood but the people it takes to make, paint, ship and get to you. I would take it to a body shop and see if they can fix it cheaper. Otherwise take a hammer and pound it back to somewhat like new shape and right it off as a battle scar.

Wow.

I saw an immaculate, just painted, better than new hood assembly for my Yanmar at my friendly VN "rebuilt" importer. There was everything you see in my avatar photo - it included the grille, headlights with wiring, all trim, decals, etc. Even the rubber grommets for the hood hinges. I passed, because I would just scratch it up over several years so it was pointless to start with a museum-quality one. He wanted $150 for it.

Calif, sounds like a bargain, you should have already bought it, never know when you might drop a tree across the hood. I believe a few years back there was a post about the cost of a NH TC48/55 hood. $1200. So the Kioti is right in the ball park with the other brands......

I bought a hood for my daughters car, a 1998 sunbird, this was a fairly high volume after market part, as I recall it cost me about $600 and then antoher $300 to get it painted and installed. pontiac probably built a lot more cars using that hood, (and many more of them are wrecked) than the CK. Its pretty neat that you can buy it already painted to match and save the painting costs... This may be why I have seen so many JD tractors with broken plastic hoods not repaired...bet theirs costs $$$$ too.

The hood also isn't just a stamped out piece of steel like a car hood.
It is also powder coated.
It does sound high at first thought but if you really think about it it's not a bad price.
See how much a body shop will charge to fix it like new or tell him you'll take something else exchange. LOL
Maybe a nice blade or that Landscape rake you mentioned...
Or tell him you'll go halfs or something.
