With 795 hours on my DK35 and no problems until I heard a snap in the tranny case and the 4 wheel drive is no longer working. My question is if the drive shaft to the front axle can be removed without removing the front axle? I am hoping it is just the coupler that joins the drive shaft to the spline shaft in the tranny. There was the loud snap, but there isn't any noise with the 4 wheel drive engaged or dis-engaged, I consider that a good sign.

Jon, I am in Wichita. I will keep your number handy if I need to give you a jingle. I have the service manual, but it doesn't go into much detail on what all needs to be removed to get the drive shaft out. The good thing is that the dealers I have called locally, have never had a problem with the DK35 four wheel drive, so that is good. Thanks again Jon

Vince,
I will let you all know what I find out. Since there isn't any noise coming from the tranny while operating I am going to bushhog some bluestem I have to get down, before tearing into the tractor, hopefully I can get it diagnosed and fixed before mowing season begins. |

Update on 4 wheel drive not working:
I finally had some time this afternoon to remove the tube cover on the front wheel drive driveshaft. The shaft will turn freely by finger tip with the four wheel drive disengaged, but when engaged it will not turn and I can hear the gears mesh in the transfer case. With the front axle grease leaking around the shaft adjoining the drive shaft, I am assuming that the bevel pinion shaft has broken in the front axle and the seal is torn allowing the grease to come past it. I am going to remove the front axle and take it to my dealer this weekend, for him to repair. I am glad it is in the front axle and the tractor will not have to be split to fix. |

Thanks for the update.
Keep us posted on the final outcome. At times I get to bulldozing dirt and rock piles pretty hard with my DK 35. You never know, It's possible I could break the same thing some day.
