I was almost insulted with the trade price I was offered on my 50 hr old L3400 when I looked at upgrading to a Grand L.

I'm half thinking about doing a private sale here - loosing out on it a bit and picking up a Grand L in the US.

Prices up here are ridiculous given the $ now. So called local dealer support which I have seen none of, far from justifies the price difference.

This sounds like a good idea to me, do you know of any technicalities that exist when bringing a new tractor bought in the USA back to Canada? If it's not too much hastle I think this is the way to go.

If you don't mind me asking, what did the dealer offer you for the L3400's trade in price?

I hear you jnixon. In Ontario Canada they wanted CDA$24500 for a B7800 and I bought one from a dealer in Michigan for US$16K. At the time that was CDA$18K.

Did you have any problems bringing the new tractor over the boarder?

Wow 54489.00 cdn!! I just received a price of 35,500 US or about 37,750 CDN for an L39 with BH with QA on loader and BH - 72" bucket - 18" BH bucket - loaded R4s - backup horn - front/back work lights - remote hyd on loader. Not all options I would have added but that is the way the dealer had it.

I assume the 54489 is more than just exchange rate. How was the L39 configured for that price? List here for this tractor as configured is around 41000. The price they gave me was about a 13% discount which I thought was pretty good.

It sure is a hard machine for me to stay away from. The one drawback is I really think I would put an 8ft 6in or 9ft high door on the barn. This would be an add cost of the purchase.

B&D

That price quoted is base model as shipped from kubota with loader and BH and nothing extra.

Jnixon,
This may not be much help but I just sold my 05 L2800 HST and stepped up to a L4240 HST. I don't have the cab, as I'm down on the Gulf Coast. I'm very impressed with the new machine. To me it's a major step up in ease of operation and comfort. I haven't put it through it's paces in the dirt yet, I'll be doing that as soon as the rain decides to stop and we dry out a bit. I paid 23725.00 for the tractor with LA854 loader, 1975.00 for Bushhog 296 6' shredder and MBX72 BB for 825.00. I drove it all out for 26604.78. Good luck,
You won't be disappointed going with this model.
My two cents,
TPevoto

Whichever model I go with I'm going to have to bring it back from the USA. I can't justify paying these prices in Canada knowing how much I could be saving buying down south. I'm headed back into the dealer tomorrow and will take a look at the L4240. I've read a few threads here about it and It may be what I'm after.

How much are the taxes? And is that both GST and PST? I know Canadian taxes seem ridiculously high. You might try offering 13% less than the US price, converted to Canadian, plus the GST/PST on that amount and see what they say. They may not want not go for that since it seems so hard to find an L39 in stock in your area, but it may give you a starting point for negotiations.

no, none at all. I live just north of a CDA/USA border town and drive over to Michigan every week or so. My good Kubota dealer in Michigan even has the forms to sign so I didn't have to pay Michigan sales tax.

When you come back to Canada they ask "do you have anything to declare". I suggested "uh no, other then the tractor I am pulling". Border service takes your invoice and adds the exchange and then GST and PST (14% total in Ontario). That's it!

Right now is a great time to buy with the almost even exchange.

I was offerred $17500 CDN for the L3400 HST w. loader and industrial tires. I paid just under $23k +GST/PST a year ago. It only has 50 hours on it now - it's basically brand new.

~$6K to loose on a machine for 50 hours of use is a bit much IMHO. Then again I don't really NEED to make any change now so I'll hang on to it. Purchasing much more for my needs would be frivilous!

If I do plan on being frivilous at some point in the future, I'll hope that our dollar is doing well and go pick one up from the U.S.A

When I purchased my L3130 in 2004 the dealer almost matched the going USA price after the exchange rate was factored in. I think I may have paid $500-$600 more. I am really pleased with the dealer. They have been very fair in all my dealings with them. The tractor has been back to the dealer 4 times and not once was I charged for pickup or delivery and the dealer is almost an hours drive from my house.

I considered trading my tractor which has about 85 hours on it. The dealer was understanding and tried to offer the maximum. He even offered to keep it on the lot and try to sell it for close to the new street price and then adjust the trade in price accordingly. The problem is as he pointed out most buyers want to take advantage of the 0% financing which is available only on new machines. Occasionally a "cash" buyer comes along that would be interested in an almost new machine for a fair price without the financing.

I guess the cost of the trade is essentially what you would have paid for the financing. Sort of the old you can pay me now or pay me later. As you point out the solution is to be happy with the machine you have. But most of us always need (maybe just want) something more.

I think I'll be waiting for the cash buyer!!
