Buying B3030 - Trading or selling B7610

I have decided to trade my 3 year old B7610 for a B3030. Here’s the deal so far:

B3030 HSD W/Turfs
LA 403 FEL W/60” Bucket
B2782 Front Blower
Quick Hitch
RCK2-30B 72” Deck

Total is $24,411.00 + 6 % tax = 25,875.66 OTD

I’m trading a B7610 W/325 hours, LA 352 FEL, 60” MMM, BX2750 front blower and quick hitch. He’s offering $11,000.00 trade value for a package that I paid $16K for.

Is the new tractor package price a decent one? Would I be better off selling my tractor myself? Anyone interested?

Since you already have a tractor, maybe you should try to sell it outright before buying the new one. Perhaps a $500 deposit will "hold" your machine for quick turnaround when you are ready.

I've been trying to sell my TC18 for about 6 weeks now since i bought my B3030. I've advertised in tbn's classified, craigslist & have it out on the road (busy road). I've gotten lots of calls from folks who saw it on the street, but few were actually serious. I just put it up on ebay. We'll see how that goes...

A Kubota should be easier to sell (better brand recognition). I'd think you could do better than $11,000 (I hope to and I have a rear blower, not front in my deal).

MSRP on your B3030 package is $26,003. In new england 10% off MSRP is a great price, others have seen as much as 15% off.

You may want to consider some extras with your new machine - upgraded alternator, rear remote(s), and my favorite new toy - front forks (used ATI skid steer quick attach).

Based on the package you are buying I think you could get 15% off list price in MI. It seems you got 15%+ off the B7610, no?

I also think that you would be better selling privately and getting more $-I'd think $12500 to $13000 for the right buyer.

Just tossing around some numbers ...

Someone said that you could pull perhaps $12.5K to $13K on a private sale.
Let's say that you could sell privately for a compromise amount of $12,000.
That's a net increase of $1000 over the dealer trade-in amount.

Instead of 6.8% but not 15%, lets shoot for a middle discount of 10.9% which equates to a discount of $2855.
That's a net increase of $1074 over the dealer's 6.8% discount of $1781.

Option 1: You go through the effort and time of finding a private buyer, and that nets you $1000 more than the $11,000 dealer trade-in offer.

Option 2: You renegotiate an increase of 4.1% on the dealer's discount, and that nets you $1074 more than the dealer's 6.8% discount of $1781.

If it were me, I'd take the easy road. I'd ask the dealer for an additional 4.1% discount on the $26,192 figure.

10.9% discount.........($2,855)
Sub total.................$23,337
6% tax....................$1400.22
OTD cost.................$24,737.22

Your new OTD total is $24,737.22. That's a savings of $1138.44, and you avoided the hassles of selling the older tractor.

Your B7610 is cost you 5 grand to own just 3 years. My vote would be a private party sell too, Take care.

I think you are going to get a bigger % discount off the B3030 if the B7610 is not a factor in the deal.

That and you will know for sure what you are getting off % wise and what $ the dealer is giving you for the B7610 trade.

I think your B7610 with all the attachments is worth $12.5K to $13K to someone.

As far as price, I have only checked with the one dealer so far, so I really don’t know what other trade offers I might get. After the dealer looked at my equipment he said it was the cleanest used tractor he had ever seen, and that he would ask $13K for it on his lot. He would expect to get $12,500.00. He would then have to charge sales tax, which would make it $13,250.00 OTD. I don’t have to charge sales tax. So it sounds like maybe I should shot for $12,500.00. That would be a $3,500.00 savings for someone vs. the OTD price for a new package.

As a long term NH resident, I haven't dealt with sales tax for quite some time, but I think your trade-in amount from the dealer is subtracted from the final OTD cost. If I am wrong, disregard the rest of what I wrote.

As is:
Purchase price...........$25,875.66
Trade-in amount........$12,500.00 *your new pursuit*
Cash Purchase...........$13,375.66

My previous suggestion was to accept their $11,000 trade-in offer and request a 10.9% discount instead: 4.1% beyond the negotiated 6.8% presently on the table.

New:
Purchase price...........$24,737.22 *your new discount*
Trade-in amount........$11,000.00
Cash Purchase...........$13,737.22

Difference: $13,375.66 - $13,737.22 = $361.56

We're this close coming from two very different directions.

Here's my take on this type of sale. The dealer has room to move on the price of a new tractor. Certainly more than the available movement on the turn around of a used tractor. He has already stated an anticipated [profit] of $1,500 on the sale of your used tractor [$12,500 - $11,000]. I am guessing that's where he wants and needs to be for the overall effort and associated factors of storing, showing, and selling a used tractor.

If you pursue an increased discount percentage, you are now working on a larger profit margin. You're negotiating dollar figures attached to a new tractor. You are also reducing the 6% tax payment which, in the end, is to your benefit. The dealer could care less.

If the dealer agreed to the 10.9% discount and you left the $11,000 trade-in as is, you're a mere $361.56 from a break even to your approach. You could negotiate some valueable throw-ins to close the deal.

The possibilities are endless from service perks to an FEL full of goodies such as fluids, filters, a chain saw, etc. etc. etc.
