T2080 vs. T2380 vs. GR2110 vs. G2160-R48.S vs. ZG222

This is for Kubota experts as there are a lot of maybe obscure models.

I have a BX24 TLB with a 60" mower. I used it last season to mow lawns and fields (about 1.5 acre lawn 4+ acre fields). It worked fine on the fields and on the lawns I used a Honda push mower to do the parts that the BX-24, because of its size, couldn't get to.

I removed the mower in the fall and it is one heavy mower and no matter what anyone says, it isn't something I want to do for the weekly lawn work and I intend to use the loader and backhoe through the summer and the mower gets in the way. So, I looked into the various home type mowers that Kubota makes for mowing purposes.

1. T2080 $3,575 gas/Kohler motor air cooled/42"
2. T2380 $4,200 gas/Kohler motor air cooled/48"
3. GR2110 $7,600 diesel/48"
4. G2160-R48.5 $8,600 diesel/48"
5. ZX222 gas/Kubota air cooled 48" $6,885 (w/the welded pro mower deck)
All are eligible for the 42 month 0 interest.


The first to look to be far better built than the HD/Lowes JD/Cub Cadets and probably are equal to the dealer JDs or better. However, the Kohler engine and air cooling bother me. In a pinch they can't handle the fields in my opinion.

The GR2110 is a heavy duty unit that is diesel liquid cooled and could handle the fields. I think. It also has all wheel drive and "Glide Steer" which allows it top turn very tightly.

The G2160 is diesel liquid cooled and has a really neat rear discharge and grass catcher that can be dumped without getting off the tractor. I like it, but it has to ordered and is the most expensive option.

The ZG 222 is gasoline and air cooled but a Kubota engine which I think can be trusted compared to the Kohler. The salesman says it would the fastest at mowing and could handle fields. The air cooling is a downer, but it has a deck that appears stronger built than the 60 incher on my BX24.

Did you ever make your move. I've got the same bx24 mmm dilema and have been doing some research. Narrowing it down and the GR2110 looks very good to me.

After running a BX, I'm affraid you'll be disapointed with a T-series. The ZG is a great compliment to the BX. If you want to save some $$ they are prior ZG20's and ZG23's floating around.

This is directed to Neil or anyone who has had experience. My BX24 is an awesome machine but for mowing can't get into corners or around the trees like I need. My wife convinced me to get rid of the sears garden tractor and trade way up. I do have some hills to mow. Is there much of a difference in ability to handle thick, tall grass on hills between a bx24 with 54"MMM and GR2110 with 54" mower?

The GR will get around much better, but you'll notice little difference for power.

There had been some transmission problems with the GR's but I think Kubota is supposed to have that fixed. Might be something a dealer could fill us in on.

I bought a GR2100 a year ago and absolutely love it. I have had no problems with it. I was going to get a ZTR, but was worried because my property is very hilly, and am very happy I didn't get one. The 4wd on the GR is great, and the glidesteer is everything they promise.

Actually, I eventually decided on a BX1850 with a 54" mower. It complements my BX24 and has a 3-pt hitch I can use without dropping the backhow from the BX24.

I have to say the steering radius on the GR was amazing and had I a few less acres I might have gone with the diesel GR model. Naw, the difference in price was minimal and with the 42 month zero interest loan, the monthly difference was less than 50 bucks at the price I was able to get the BX18 50.
