Tractor
John Deere 4120
O.K. I admit it...

I went to the Kubota dealer today just to say I looked at all of the different tractors out there and settled on a Deere 4120 with 400cx loader. But after playing with an L3940HST I'm having major second thoughts! These things are loaded with features, and I must say I'm very impressed.
I'm trying to decide between the Deere or the Kubota, so I would like any and all input from you guys that own them.

Also, I would like your opinion on the price:
L3940HST
LA724 Loader with round back 72" quick attach bucket and cutting edge
R4 Tires
$23,000 from dealer in N.E. Ohio

Thanks in advance

I have grown up with Kubota over the past 20 years L2550 L4310 and a M7040 we still own all 3 and they just work. we are looking to get a KX161 excavator. They have very smooth hydraulics and great motor/drive terrain. do the scheduled maintenance and they will not let you down. I know a few people who have Deeres and I have run them I would never consider anything other than orange 20 years and still happy says a lot.

I bought a L3240HST with a LA724 loader in December, broke it in clearing snow this winter. It is a very, very nice machine :D I have the 72" standard bucket, wish I had gone with the HD round back. The only down side so far has been the ruts in SWMBO's lawn - but once things dry out the tractor can fix it ;)

Hi there Mr. 12 voltman,
If you are impressed with a Kubota while testing it, just think how you will feel if use use it for a while. I can't say anything about JD because I've never owned one, but I will tell you that I know a lot of Kubota owners in my parts (myself included), and I have never once, ever, heard anyone complain about them. I also know a lot of J.D. owners, and while I know they are good machines, I have heard regrets from them. My best buddy went out and bought a B7800 after using my Kubota, and he loves it. He was a Deere man for years. Whatever you decide, best of luck and enjoy it.

Voltman,
The only downside to buying a Kubota over a John Deere is the lack of marketing merchandise available. You know, car tags, bumper stickers, t-shirts, caps, keyrings, watches, clocks, calendars, coffee mugs, dinner plates, mailboxes, trailer hitch covers, golf club covers, posters, and other trinkets. The list seems to be endless of the stuff that you can buy that says John Deere on it.

With the Kubota, you may get a hat/t-shirt and a keyring that says Kubota, but other than making an unsurpassed, rock-solid purchase that will last you a lifetime, that's about it!

Hey, Mr. Podunk,
You forgot to tell him about the ever popular Kubota tattoo. I always tell folks that I bought a $20,000.00 Kubota baseball cap, and they threw in a free tractor for buying the hat.

I just purchased a Kubota B3030 yesterday. My whole family spent a few hours at the Kubota dealer last Saturday looking at various models and trying to decide which was right for us. This included my wife, and my 4 children, ages 11, 9, 9, and 3.5

When we got home from the dealer, my 3 year old immediately started asking me if we could paint his little "power wheels" style John Deere motorized tractor orange, so that it could be like Daddy's tractor!

I guess I am going to get to see if that new-fangled plastic paint really works! I am also going to have to ask my dealer if I can get some Kubota decals so that we can "re-badge" the John Deere!

My neighbor (big JD fan) is going to be pissed!

:D

Kubota features and reliability are legendary...
I, like shantycoke, have a JD friend who uses his new bought JD only for shreadding... and has had two hydraulic pump failures in about 5 years. I got my Kubota used, use it much more than he does, have had no failures at all. JD is a good machine, but I do have a Kubota bias.

question... do you really need a cutting edge for your bucket... or would a toothbar be more useful? Many on TBN would vote for the toothbar, including myself. Cutting edges and toothbars are generally mutually exclusive.
