12.5 acres: figure out what the tractor has to do first before choosing one.

So I decided on the MX5100 w/fel, 6ft box blade, and 6ft mower.
I figured this will give me something to grow into and I won't be left wishing I got a bigger tractor later. I decided on the 2wd vs the 4wd to save a little coin, loader work isn't going to be a primary function of the tractor. So I think I'll be ok. Anyway, I hope I made the right decision. I'll post later after I spend some time on the tractor. Thanks for everyones input. |

Buying a tractor without a loader is like buying a car without a drivers seat. Sure it may work for a while and you can work around not having it- but sooner or later, you will realize how useful it is.
Wouldn't trade mine for anything, found uses for it that I never realized. Anyway, I agree with several ideas posted. Think long term use- what needs to be done now and in the future. More HP is better (I'm dealing with aspects of an under HP tractor now). Think of it as a long term investment. I would think that you put a lot of thought into the piece of land you purchased, put the same amount of conideration in buyinh the right equipment |
