New guy here and looking for my first tractor

I got some firm pricing today and it looks like I will either have to forgo the BH or the Chipper, to stay in range. Can't decide which I would rather do without, I feel like I could use both right away.

I understand your position. Do you have any specific jobs lined up? Do you use a chipper for your own mulch or composting? Do you have much expierence with a chipper. I have a small chipper and after using it once or twice I realized I was spending alot of time getting little done. It is much easier and quicker for me to burn brush instead of chipping it. Burning my brush has now turned into an annual event for freinds and families, weenie roast. Keep in mind I don't have expierence with a larger pto chipper. BH are hard to justify the cost. I paid just a little more than the cost of just the BH65 when I bought my full size IH3616. That was my justification when I got it. I got a whole tractor, loader, BH that weighs 12-14K lbs for what just a BH attachment costs. Do you plan on doing some landscaping, ditching? Is your ground mostly flat or uneven? Sometimes you need a backhoe to grade something level when you cannot get the tractor level to use the loader. If you think you are going to just run some water, power, or drainage lines, the price of a BH will go a long way in a trencher rental, which is better suited for it, and you don't have to store it when you are done. I don't see it being a problem if you buy the 2620 with FEL and BH65 and 15% down 48mo finac. should put you roughly around $350/mo. The chipper option should be even less. You can use the FEL on the 2620 without any ballast although not really reccommended. You might consider a grader box or something else that is useful instead of a ballast box which is just for weight. Sorry to be long winded. So many options and there is usually more than one way to do something.

I plan to put the 15% down and use the 48/zero financing. So I don't know what implements you can add and still use the financing. I'm assuming that it would only be good for Kubota equipment.

I'm not a big fan of the fluid tires and would prefer the ballast box, unless I get the BH. At least that way I can lighten the load for trasportation. Plus if you have a flat it sure makes a mess and it corrodes the wheels. But if you would like to convince me otherwise feel free.

In regards to filling the tires IMO I would rather do that than mess with a ballast box. If you have them filled with rimguard it is not corrosive and will not affect the wheels.

Also, yes to the toothbar for sure.

No jobs lined up, as in, for hire, but I feel like I have some use for the BH. I do not have any experience with a chipper, however I have talked to someone with a pto type. That said, I think I have decided to not get a chipper for now. Even though I don't have a good place to burn, I figure with the FEL I can make a spot. (I live smack in the middle of the woods, no open space other than 1/3 acre yard thats fairly nice).

As far as justifying the cost of a BH, I don't really agree w/ most arguments against one. For one, I just sold a bike I paid $9700 cash for. That bike could do no productive work. It was merely a pleasure item. If I want a backhoe for pleasure, then it seems to me that I'm actually saving money, while having something useful and productive. I guess what I'm saying is that I want one because I want one, its not really a need. I think there will be a lot of things that I will end up doing because of the convenience of walking out to the garage and hoping on the BH. If I have to go rent something its more like an event that you plan for and have to have everything all lined up. In the end I have found that I rarely ever do projects that require renting stuff.

That was my logic in this as well. Here is where I'm at. I got firm $ quote from the dealer on my ideal setup:

$14100=2620 w/364 FEL, R4's
$6800 = BH65 w/mechanical thumb & 10" bucket
$340 = Toothbar

How do those prices sound? They seem fair to me. Also, the dealer has an excellent reputation and the fellow I'm developing a relationship with is the warranty guy.

He acted like the loaded tires would not be extra. Or I could add the ballast box for $100. Not sure I would need either if I get the BH.

The prices sound just a little high compared to back in Aug. I actually paid $200-$300 more to go with the dealer I felt more comfortable with though.

The best breakdown in prices I can come up with for mine in Aug. are:

B2620 w/R4's $10,550
364 FEL $2,800
BH65 w/16" bucket $6,200

Kubota website lists the Mech. thumb at $443 and add your $340 for the toothbar. It looks like my dealer may have forgot to charge me for the BH bucket? If not then your price looks like $900 more.

Total $20,333 * 1.07 Sales tax = $21756 - $3263(15%dwn) = $18,493 / 48 mo = $385/mo.

Pretty close only $17/mo less. Unless my dealer forgot about the BH bucket. Then your prices match mine.

By the way I considered the 10" bucket, would give better digging power and better for trenching.

Oh Yeah, the loaded tires for no extra would be worth something and only $100 for ballast box sounds good as well. Their are times I wish my tires were loaded. Like today I was using my PHD and carring a bucket of gravel to put in the holes as I went and the PHD is not much ballast. With the PHD on I couldn't put a ballast box on, but loaded tires would have worked well.
