My uncle is looking at an L305 DT 4WD (so far, looking by email and phone calls, has not laid eyes on it). I've been trying to dig up some specs on it for him. So far, all I've got is what's on Machinery Link (basically, weight, HP and transmission).

Can anyone point me towards more detailed specs? Would like info on length, wheelbase, etc. Also, if you could compare it to whatever is the closest current Kubota offering, that would be helpful.

Thanks .... John Mc

Thanks, JM3. Sometimes a picture is worth a thousand words.

Intended use is for bush hogging, and some earthwork (w/ FEL, rear blade, box blade, etc). Any idea whether this would be a decent platform for a backhoe? He needs something in the size range of a Woods 7500 or similar. Is a 3 pt hitch BH OK with these models, if used with care, or should he be looking for a subframe mount? (If subframe, can you even get the subframes anymore to fit an L305 ?)

Thanks for any comments.

I've owned a 305DT since '83, when I bought it new. I've done alot of brush hogging with it, but when mowing heavy grass or brush, it's a bit under powered. That's the reason I purchased a used 61HP John Deere for that purpose. The extra HP lets it breeze through the brush, and it's a lot easier on the tractor. You have to continually watch the engine temp on the Kubota to make sure it doesn't overheat. Fact is, that's what that white bottle is for on the other gentleman's picture post. It has the overfill tube in there to catch the radiator fluid.

I don't have a FEL on mine, but I would think that it would handle it OK. I made up a 10" steel "I" beam bumper to deflect trees and brush when mowing.

As far as a BH goes, I own a JD 410 and don't use an attachment on my Kubota. It would probably handle a small BH attachment.

The 305DT has been a good tractor for most of my other applications - except heavy brush hogging.

Thanks for the info. I assume you were using a 5 ft brush hog with your 305? That's what my uncle will probably want to use. (If it had trouble with a 4 ft unit, then I'd say it's seriously underpowered for it's frame size.)

John,
Yes, my "brush hog" is a 5' Woods Brush Bull. I used a Brillion "chopper" for years before I purchased the Woods model last fall. That was a little lighter, but I still had overheating problems in thick vegetation. It was fine for most other applications.

Thanks for the help, John in NY and JM III!

My uncle got beat to the punch... the tractor was gone by the time he called to arrange to see it. Back to the drawing board.
