Default Why won't the dealer let us "test" drive the fel??

I'm still fighting with the BX or B struggle and it would make it A LOT easier if the dog-on dealer would let me try out the models I want to and use the FEL.

They said, and I agree, that if I use the FEL, it would get scratched and they would have to sell it as used - but, why can't they have models in the yard to test and try out??

This is extremely frustrating and if I'm going to spend anywhere from $15,000 up to $18,000 you would think they would let you even take it home and try it around the house....

Anyone else have this problem or frustration?

I bought a used B21. The seller told me to drive around behind his shop and dig a hole and fill it in to see how it works.

If you don't mind scatches, why don't you look for a used one to test drive and buy?
Or buy a new one try it and trade it in if you don't like it.

They should allow for this. When I had my New Holland and was in the market for upgrading the local New Holland dealer here has a tractor obstacle course for say behind their business. It is dirt and grass w/ large dirt and rock piles scattered all around and this is set up for you to take the tractors you are interested in and go back there and try them out scooping dirt, using 4wd, etc... I think this is the way it should be. As far as scrathing the FEL if the have a pile of nice smooth top soil you are not going to scratch the FEL.

or just temporarily hoop up a bucket from a used rig on the lot....easy fix if they really want to sell one. the dealer sounds retentive.

Do you have any idea what it would cost to keep one of each model available for potential customers to try out? Some folks, such as myself, don't care if I buy a "new" tractor with 4 or 5 (or even 10) hours on it, and I don't care if they scratched the paint on the bucket and touched it up with a rattle can, but read some old threads and see how upset some people get if their new tractor isn't delivered with zero hours on the meter and not a scratch on it.

So, yep, I can see two sides to this story. As a customer, naturally you'd like to try it out and I don't blame you for that. But as a dealer, how much extra overhead can you afford?

I agree Bird. I know the bucket on my tractor cost $1000, or did several years ago. I can see why a dealer doesn't want to invest in one for tire kickers to try out. I also agree that it would not bother me if there were a few hours on a tractor or a few scratches on the bucket when I bought. I figure that will happen within hours of my purchase anyway. There are those who do not agree though. Shoot we have members here that want custom paint jobs on their tractors. I am sure a scratch on the bucket would be a deal breaker.

When i was looking for my first tractor, I rented from the dealers rental dept a unit in the range of what I was intrested in. Since I need to do some work anyway, I had a good 8 hrs per unit to make up my mind. I tried red, green, blue and orange. Suggest trying to find who rents the specific model your intrested in and work it. The small expense for rental would be offset for getting the wrong unit.

My dealer let me know of a few poeple that had purchase the same unit as I was looking @ and then I rented a b26 and it spoiled me thus I purchased one. The local Deere dealer also did the same he had a used bucket he put on a new machine and let me play with it(which I really liked some of its options). The local ford dealer has always let me try a truck with my trailer to see I liked it also. A good salesman know if you take it home and use it its hard to bring it back.

But I have notice that many on this site think it should always be waxed and in the shed to look @.

I've got to agree with some others, I wouldn't let you go digging with a new unit. A used one yes, but not new. Drive up to Illinois, I'll let you play on my BX a couple of hours.
