Just wondering what the -3 means at the end of a Kubota tractor model such as 5740HSTC-3?

They are minor revisions to the base model. I guess the revision could be for anything, but emissions changes has been a popular one.

I recently ordered an M8540HD12 and when I actually went to get the formal quote, I found out it is now an M8540HD12-1. Some of the options I ordered were specifically for the -1 as well. In my case, I think it was emissions related changes, buy any "fix" could cause a minor revision as well.

On the LXX40 series, I dont know what the -1 is. I have a -2. Upgrades to the -3 include stall guard on the PTO, electric pull knob pto engagement, a different style of FEL control level that incorporates improved rubber boot, and a different LXX40 emblem on the hood. There may be others differences, but those are the ones that come to mind. Your dealer should be able to tell you in detail. Philip.

When you do the "build your own" on the kubota web site, the features list shows the -2 or -3.

Basically the -3 gets you a swivel seat base, Stall Guard to the PTO and an
electrically switched PTO over a lever activated PTO on the -1 and -2.
We choose the -3 over a -2 mainly for the swivel seat.

I emailed Kubota the same question regarding the l4240, here is their response:

Thank you for you inquiry. Please see the information per your questions
below:

-1 Models Addition of Interim Tier IV engines, new standard steering
wheel horn for all CAB models (not optional for ROPS), new location of the
"auto lever advance" ON/OFF switch - relocated to the left side of the
steering wheel console for easier use.

-2 Models Decrease in overall ROPS height from 97.4 to 94.4

-3 Models Addition of Stall Guard Plus, operators swivel seat,
electronically activated PTO, upgraded CAB headliner, CAB龍 are backhoe
compatible.

Height of ROPS of the L4240HST-3
ｷFolded with AG tires 81.6
ｷAG tires on 94.4
ｷR4 tires 94.9
