Tractor
Kubota Bx24, 2007
Hi everyone. Need some help from u guys. Today I have an BX24 which Im very happy with. But sometimes it too small. For example I need to get a "trailer" with a hydralic crane to do some work in the woods, trees catch by storms etc. I find that the BX24 dont have the ground clearance aswell to small tires to preform in the woods well. And I need a stronger loader. The BX24 is fantastic for what its designed for ,dont get my wrong. And I have a 3 acre field which I need to plow. As Im going to use the new tractor with loader I want it to be easy to operate, gearbox wise (forward/backward/forward) I love the HST on my BX (execpt the brutal stoppings..) So which of the two models would do the work best?
I looking to spend maybe around 20-25000 and try to find a nice used example with not to many hours on.
Kubota M5140 with frontloader could be an alternative aswell
Thanks,
/Sam

You should look at the L3240-L3540 with R1(Ag) tires...not too big but with the 724 loader...nice all around tractor.Should be in your price range new.
I had a L3130 that I really liked..moved to a L4240HSTC..like the cab for winter but limits woods work.
The L5140 is a huge jump from a BX.Lots of $$$$$$$$$$.

you should be able to get a MX5100 HST 4x4 with LA844 fel for your price range maybe a tad more.

If you want to stay with an HST, you will have to go L40 or MX4700/MX5100. Either would be really good, but I really like HST+ on the L40; course it is hard to beat the price/utility of the MX5100.

In your situation, there is, I believe, no definitive "best" tractor, just several really good options.

For price I might say to stick with the MX4700! The 5140 doesn't offer a hydro but it would be the heaviest.

The reason that I went with the 4700 is you don't seem to need the horsepower for your chores as much as you do the weight and the 4700/5100 chassis is the same just less horsepower.

I've always had reservations over putting a full featured tractor in the woods!

Thanks for your input. Well I think an MX5100 will do the job fine.
Its allways difficult to make a 100 % right choise. I think that the MX5100 is a good
complement to my BX24. It still a relative small tractor but stronger an the BX.

my MX5100 has been in the woods for 2 to 3wks digging postholes an shredding as we build some new fences.an it fitts nicely as the woods are pretty thick.

Are you running HST gearbox on your MX5100?

They will all do what you are wanting.

My reccomendation...go to the dealer, test drive ALL 3 candidates, form your opinions, and then talk price.

I believe there is no best tractor for what you want. They will all do it. So it comes down to only two things.

1. which is most comfortable to YOU to operate
2. which is most comfortable price wise

Only you know your finances and what you like in ergonomics. So only YOU can make that decision. But again, I dont think you can go wrong with any of them.

And you may also want to look at the L4400. Less frills and a little smaller. But if it will fit the bill, it should be a tad easier on the pocketbook.
