Buying Advice 2002 BX 1800--bush hog 42" or 48"?

Buying a 02 BX1800 with 60" belly mower an rear blade, 376 hrs an looks like new for $5750 in Indep Mo. at odell tractor/kubota.

I think the 60" mower is to big for that tractor myself. I am interested in maybe a 42" or 48" brush hog for down here in the Ozarks.

What do you guys think about the brush hog size, remember, I only have 18 hp at the engine and I think around 14 at the pto

Has anybody here used a rear brush hog on a kubota this small?

Years ago I had a new ford Boomer tc18 H.P. with a 4ft hog an it didn't do to bad. I hope the kubota will do as good

I run a 48" on our 2660, my inclination would be to go with a 42 on the 1800, someone with an 1800 may see it differently.

If your 18hp Ford Boomer 'didn't do too bad' with a 48" cutter, then the 18hp BX 'wont do too bad' with a 48" cutter either, but do not expect any more than 'too bad'. Obviously, it depends on what and how often you are cutting. I quickly looked at Woods 48" cutter, they recommend a minimum of 15 tractor horsepower. I quickly looked at Land Prides 48" cutter, they recommend a minimum of 20 tractor horsepower. You need to go to the equipment manufacturers websites and see what their recommendations are. The BX1800 tractor manual will also provide recommendations on cutter size and weight. Can you get this information from seller? Hopefully someone with more practical information on the BX1800 will chime in, but this will get you started in the right direction. Good luck. Philip.

The 60" MMM is not too big for 1800, my 1860 handles the 54" with no problem and I know would do just fine with a 60". Having said that, I just picked up a used Land Pride 42" rotary cutter after considering 48" new, and I'm glad I didn't go bigger just because of the weight of the thing. Haven't had the opportunity to try it out yet.
