    Default 2002 Kubota L4310 45hp

    Hello,
I am looking at a 2002 Kubota L4310 HST with 1300 hours on it. It comes with a loader. Asking price is $13,500.
Is that a good deal for the number of hours? What should I be checking for in a used tractor such as this? I was looking at new tractors but the price is tempting for the size.
    Thanks,
    TDKG

I don't have any idea; might help to have a full description such as cab/open station, loader, rear remotes etc., the hours are pretty good for that tractor; might check Tractorhouse for an idea keeping in mind those are the askng price, so knock a little off for that.

That's a pretty fair price if it's clean and in nice shape.

Here are a few that are on TractorHouse. Keep in mind TractorHouse prices are before negotiations and are the asking prices not usually the selling prices.

Here is the description of the tractor
2002 Kubota L4310 HST 45HP Diesel, 4WD, Hydrostatic Transmission, Power Steering, Front Loader, Low Hours, Runs Great!

I am just a bit concerned about buying a used tractor because it is 1.5-2 hours to the nearest Kubota dealer. However reading comments from people who have owned this model, they rarely needed any work done.
Whatever I get will be my first tractor to own, and I would like it to last awhile.
Thanks for any and all advice!

The tractor does look good, real good. Don't think you have anything to worry about.

How long is "for awhile"? If that's 5 or so years then my answer would be different than if your answer is more than 20 years? Secondly is it the size you were looking for or did you scale up or, more importantly, down? Part of a "good deal" is if it fits into your plans. As for the tractor, it looks to be in good shape but the only real way to tell is in person. If it has been maintained well I would have to say it has lots of life left in it. It does have ag tires, if that's not what you want it's not cheap to change them. I'm sorry if my answer is not a straight forward answer but it's not an easy question to answer other than what dex said about looking on tractorhouse to get an idea as to what they sell for and what visual condition you can expect one to be in. Just remember prices vary by location so a tractor in the south east will be cheaper than one on the west coast or New England.

My best advice, go look at it and then ask some specific question about it. Things like "xxxx doesn't seam to work, how should it work", "I didn't like this, is that something that I'll get use to", or "I heard this noise when I did this, is that normal".

"Awhile" ideally would be more than 5 years. It would get most of its use the first year clearing my adjoining smaller parcel of land, and then afterward would be used for maintaining my 3 separate gravel driveways and culverts plus my elderly neighbor's road maintenance. I have a lot of fencing to put in and would be using a posthole auger quite a bit at first. 45 hp is probably more hp than I really need, but I'd rather have more hp than not enough. I definitely know that I do want the HST.
It would be nice to pick up a backhoe for burying animals and doing some occasional trench work, plus maybe a chipper shredder.
Like I mentioned before, I fully planned on buying new a year or two ago, but it just didn't work out at the time. This tractor is priced a lot less than a new 35hp that I tested recently. With the economy the way it is right now, I couldn't swing a new tractor this year anyway, but could fit this one into my budget. I agree I would definitely go look at it an drive it and ask pointed questions before buying. Problem is that it is 5 hours away, and I have to work this weekend. I guess if it is still around the following weekend, I might try and get over and check it out.
Thanks for all the advice! I'm always open to suggestions.

I can only echo what crazyal said; good input.

As to tires, we run Ag as well as Industrial and if you have read threads here very long you will know both have their defenders and detractors. For that size tractor, I prefer Industrial, but it would not be a big deal one way or the other. You will want to look very closely at the condition of the tires;looks like good tread, so look for cracking.

I bought a used 2003 L5030 HSTC three years ago thinking I would keep it the rest of my life. It didn't work out and I am getting a very good trade in value for a new tractor. I have 1300 hours on my L5030 and I was comfortable with it looking long term. I don't see you wearing that tractor out; maybe trade it off in a few years, but maybe not.

We have yet to have to do anything other than routine maintenance; belts, filters etc. They are very easy to maintain.

It is much easier to buy too small than too large, so if you were thinking 35 HP, then 45 is probably right where you should be; was looking for 35 HP when we bought the 5030 and HAPPY we went bigger.

I am selling my 2003 Kubota L4310 HST 4WD Tractor with only 300 hours in excellent condition. Fitted with Ag Tires in good condition. It comes with a WR Long UJ2 4N1 bucket (72" wide) which sells for over $2500. This is an extremely versatile bucket. Also included is a Woods 72" Bush Hog in excellent condition. Asking $16,500. New this rig would cost nearly $30,000. If interested, please respond.
