Buying Advice L, M, or MX series? Can you offer guidance?

Now that you know how passionate I am about using hydro equipped tractors, time for some full disclosure.

Yes Hydro tractors have downsides:shocked:

Hydro tractors make a "whiney noise". It seems the smaller the tractor the more whine they make. Also when you "crowd" them or run them in too high of a range for the terrain or load the more whine they will make..My latest tractor is the largest hydro tractor I have owned, and it's hydro whine is almost non-existant unless you are trying to climb a steep hill fully loaded in HIGH range (don't do that).

Hydro tractors do not deliver as much power to the ground or PTO as a geared tractor.. There is loss in the fact you have a hydo pump driving a hydro motor that drives the final gearing.

Hydro tractors make more heat. Yes they do, They have extra radiators to dissipate that heat. Some small tractors have fans over the transmissions instead of the plumbing and radiator. If you think about the loss of horsepower to the ground and PTO, it has to go somewhere. It goes up in heat mostly.

Hydro Tractors have an extra oil filter that needs to be changed every few hundred hours. It is needed to ensure the hydro mechanism gets clean oil.

So what does all this mean? Not much to me.. I will gladly pay the extra money for the filter every few hundred hours, my tractor does not whine appreciably anyway, and the heat is way up there up front of the normal radiator.. It doesn't bother me. I enjoy operating them too much, and when I am trying to set a rock on top of a rock wall with my forks, and I am moving forward in fractions of an inch, yes I want my hydro.!

One thing I like about the grand L over the regular L is the deluxe 3 point hitch with telescopic lift arms and telescopic stabilizers. It makes hooking up to implements easier. I also like the hst+ on the grand L. What tractors have you looked at so far?

These are excellent points.

I was seriously looking at the Kubota BX25 package with FEL and BH, however now I am leaning on the B3030HSD instead. I like some of the extra features. This thread has generated a great discussion. happy hunting

I guess I should also add if you get a fel you will probably want a skid steer quick attach so you can change between attachments on the fel easily. The loader on the tractors can be taken off in less than 5 minutes unlike a old tractor that would take hours.

[try it with no loaded tires no wieght on 3 pt moveing it bout 100 feet i had to grad the bucket backing up the hill try to move stuff like that with no loaded tires an no wieght on 3pt now i have the 7040 it has loaded tires cast center i can get 1.5 l3800 buckets of dirt in one 7040 bucket it dont take long now

Why would anyone who knows how to properly operate equipment do that and expect to get good performance? Am I missing something, misreading the post?

My next question is one easily answered by a dealer, but it's 10pm here in SE Ohio! :licking:

When you add a loader to an L, M, or MX, I assume these model tractors already have the mid-mount remotes ready to hook up the FEL? The joystick comes with the FEL package I assume?[/Q

if you want I will be willing to give you a test drive of my grand L5740 HST .PM me if you are interested near Wilmington Oh.

You are crazy for trying that. Not safe at all. With no ballast and no weight, that is unsafe. Now you have a much bigger tractor and PROPERLY BALLASTED, and you somehow find that you operation the L3400 incorrectly makes it a toy:confused2:

Why would anyone who knows how to properly operate equipment do that and expect to get good performance? Am I missing something, misreading the post?
:drink:

i have a kubota 7040su 4x4 fel gear tranny 2 rear remotes loaded rear tires cast centers i have put 33 hrs on it the tractor is to light at times i will tell you this dont go smaller then an m series tractor i had an L3800 it was a toy that belongs in the sand box i move 10 ton of stone it took 6 hrs to do it i moved them again with the 7040 in an hr my buckets only 6'' wider on the 7040 then the l3800 my i wish i would got a skid steer have fun tractor shopping

Let be quote your first post. In it you said that you could work 6 times faster with the 7040. (6hours with the L3400 and 1 hr with the 7040)

So now in your most recent post, you said that you can only get 1.5x's more in the 7040 bucket??

Numbers just arent adding up.

This again shows your ignorance.

We told you over and over in your old L3800 thread to put weight on the 3 pt hitch and you never did. The L3800 will not handle heavy loader work without weight on the back end. Anyone with any tractor experience will have proper counter weight on the back when doing any serious loader work.

I guess you are relying on loaded tires with cast centers on your 7040 for ballast... You're going to kill the front axle unless you start using proper rear ballast on the 3 pt hitch... Just sayin.

I am going to have a little fun here, but this post will probabally get deleted.

I didnt know just how deep this went with case245 until I started searching. Quotes are ALL from him in various threads

THE OLD CASE 21hp I RAN TILL 2005 Was A BETTER TRACTOR THAT HAD 11K ON IT NEVER EVER CHANGED THE ENGINE OIL

im still up in the air bout the reiableity of the Kubota

Seriously? Sure, the kubota will last 11k if you never change the oil:laughing:

the kubota is no camparo to the 245 case ih we put 11k on the kubota wont last near as long im not inpressed with it at all i hate it i shold of bought a skid steer

A Skidloader wont last 11k when neglected either. But you are right, you should have bought one. (or anything other than a kubota)

the farmer i work for has a massey 362 its 55hp idk but told kubotas are crap id like mine it only lifts 200ibs more then the old caseih 245 21hp 3 cyl 60 cu in 2000ibs mach this thing 38hp an only wiegh 600ibs more c om n 200ibs more lift i cant drag loggs either the case did more

The farmer is an idiot. And lets compare, 2000lb case and 21HP, vs 2600lb kubota and 38 HP. The case can drag more???? Gee I wonder what could be wrong with the kubota?? Ballast??MAybe???

bluegill not knowi how to use a small compact c om i put 11k on a case skidin thosands of logs n tilling with 5 footer

Could have fooled me:laughing:

my loader welds cracked at a few places i got the tractor two weeks ago its a kubota 7040su

:confused3:

i going thourgh the dealer now i hope i dont to go the kubota it self i been moving heavy eqiupment since 8 years old running at 11 i never broke the case compact

very suprising

i have an 7040sud fel 4x4 loaded rear tires cast center can i add more weights to the cast centers they have square holes in them if so how much more can i add the back end was off the ground today
i was going to bolt more weights to the cast centers but i didnt know if the rear axle could handle it

Someone with your experience around equipment should know that wheel weights dont effect the axles

u guys judge me u do know me my back ground been on run equipment since 7 yrs old

It sure dont show it by your posts.

IMO, you should get rid of that junk kubota. And get something....anything but a kubota. You are giving them a bad name. You do know case still makes tractors right???? Get a CaseIH of whatever model you want, beat the pi$$ out of it, and never change the oil for 11k and see if you still think case is all that.

Sure wish I had me one of them thar old Case's with over 11,000 hours, on it,, If I did I would never have to change oil..:).. Think of all the money that was saved by not changing OIL:shocked: That's a bunch of coin! Yeah, them crummy Kubota's can't hold a candle.... yeah my thread will probably get whacked too!..

On the GrandL, the joystick is built into the station, and the FEL hydraulic connections are built into the station. So, if you do not get the FEL, all the necessary parts except the brackets/mounting points are already there. Philip.
