Buying Advice Used BX or riding mower vs. current 1991 Case 1130

I own a Craftsman lawn mower.

I had a Craftsman many moons ago, along with a Cub Cadet lawn tractor...There is no comparison between those and a BX...8 years and still have the same battery. No failures.....No Craftsman can move 48 tons of limestone in a couple of hours...It would appear that case is a harry man, got the biggest thing kinda guy...My BX does everything I want and then some.

I've had bigger machines and they tended to get in the way of themselves..Depends on the useage...My BX doesn't do anything perfect, but it does everything I need it to do very well...Kinda like a swiss army knife.

Agreed, I have owned and own much bigger tractors as well, but that doesn't take anything away from the BX and I consider it a tractor not a lawn mower. When I didn't want to road one of our bigger tractors from another farm, I used my BX to move a LOT of dump truck loads of crushed rock, worked on roads and in the woods. My health won't allow me to run open station machines anymore, but I will always love those little BX's. I got on one the other day to move it out of the way and hook the FEL up, great little tractors in my opinion.:thumbsup:

YOU WILL NOT BE HAPPY WITH A BX they are a CRAFTSMAN lawn mower with a bucket i say buy a b series kubota or an L SERIES WOULD FIT WELL TO HELP AROUND THE FARM I HAD AN 245 IH AN 1989 I SKIDDED logs with that plowed an tilled so an L32 or l3800 would work for you i had an L3800 the is a little heavier then my old case 245 i think you ll be happy with one i traded for a 70hp only beause the loader cap oh the guy down behind my place has a bx25 in 18 inces of snow a few yrs ago i got mu truck stuck it was a 100 foot from my main road it took 3+ hrs to get me out i fell in my ruts from days before the snow they were 10-12inchs deep the bx couldnt push me out we used the hoe on the bx to put all the wieght of the bx on my bumper i was able to get out if i would of had the l3800 it would of did it i ran that case 245 almost 20 years good luck the cap on the case fel was 600ibs at the pp they are are 1400 on the 3800 855 500mm forward of the pp or at the cutting edge of the bucket

I can tell you have never been on a BX before. I also used to think they were nothing more than a overgrown lawnmower. I would laugh when I would see guys on here doing stuff with a BX, I thought what a joke. I got my BX to mow with and I found out is way more than a mower. I could drag the average mower anywhere with the BX while I mow. You can do a lot of work with it. The 3PH is very strong. You may be surprised how big of a log it would drag.

You have 8.7'' of clearance on the front axle of a BX2360.

That's some rough brush cutting work! I don't even do that with a much bigger tractor because it beats everything around so much. I won't tell you what to do but only suggest a day of dozer time or even some time spent pulling logs and cutting stumps flush to the ground would save a lot of wear and tear on whatever expensive new equipment you end up with. That said, yes, it sure sounds like you need something with some ground clearance. Maybe additional skidplates too!

As mentioned the ground clearance is only about 8 inches or so, so you will run into problems. I don't bush hog over fallen logs and stumps with my M8540, so I don't know what to tell you other than as mentioned look at a different approach. We rented a tracked skid steer this summer to clear the really rough stuff out and have used a dozer too. I am not going to tear up a tractor and cutter doing stuff for which it wasn't intended.

NO, it won't. It's not supposed to. It's a SUB Compact tractor. Not a big farm tractor or even a Compact (B series) tractor. It's a SUB Compact tractor. It will mow, drag, lift, load, pull, push, carry, dig, etc, etc depending on attachments on ground that only requires about 6 to 8 inches of clearance. It will stick to the ground like glue also depending on attachments. As some say, it's LIKE a Swiss Army Knife, not a machete. To compare it to a Craftsman mower is .....well again I'll not go there but anyone that has every used both will see how foolish that statement is......well I guess I did go there.
I bought my first tractor 10 years ago. A BX2200 FEL MMM to be a lifetime mower with a high priced wheelbarrow on the front. I don't think I've ever been more pleasantly surprised with a purchase before or since. I had owned Craftsman and Wheel Horse mowers of different sizes and prices and it's like comparing a dump truck to a old model Volkswagen pickup.
The best mowing machine I've ever owned, and still do, is the Kubota F model mower.

This is the area we have cleared. My boys and I are cutting the green briar thorn vines. I am trying to attach pic to post

I am not going to be doing this type of work forever. We are having the land cleared via 50 ton excavator. I wanted to clear vines and scrub from areas that will not be touched with excavator.
