Default Kubota L2500

I'm looking at a 1999 Kubota L2500DT with a Kubota LA450S Loader. The meter shows 143 hours, it looks to be in good shape and taken care of. The owner wants $11,900.00. I'm new to tractor buying, live in the NE Texas area; any help/advice would be appreciated.

jpaskin -

Last September I bought an L2500DT with 187 hours on it. It had no loader, so the dealer put a brand new LB400 on it for me. He also gave me an "as new" full warranty on the whole thing. The complete package, including our exorbitant California sales tax was $14,100.

If the one you're looking at has truly been taken care of (ask for maintenance records and look real hard for signs of abuse), I would jump on that deal with both feet.

I don't know how it is in Texas, but used Kubotas are becoming real scarce out here, which would make your deal all the more attractive. I lucked out getting the warranty, but now, of course, I'm hoping I never need it. Buying used without a warranty is a gamble, but you just have to consider your odds. Maybe you could sweet-talk, bribe or even pay a real Kubota mechanic to look it over for you.

Good luck, and keep us posted.

Kubota are"becoming real scarce out here"
Is it do to the demand or not enough dealers.

Thomas -

New Kubotas are plentiful enough, it's the used market that is drying up around here (Northern California).

According to my tractor broker, Kubota owners are simply hanging on to them, more so now than ever before. Used JD's are still common, and to a lesser degree NH's, but nobody seems to want to part with their 'Botas.

Uh-oh! That sounds like I'm playing the orange card, doesn't it? Honest, folks -- I'm just passing on some info from a guy who makes his living finding and selling used compact tractors of all colors. My information is a month or two old, so maybe it's all changed by now.

Harv,
Here in southern New Hampshire , there is a dealer that has an auction in February. (Mears Tractor in Plaistow)
I drive by it on the way home from work. Lately people have been bring tractors in getting ready for the show. They line them up on the road.
I'd say right now, there are many more blue, then green,
a few yellow and just one or two orange tractors there on the used side. There are several nice blue and green machines there.

The other side of the road is a sea of orange, all new.

Dave -

That sounds like a great stretch of road!

I'd have a hard time with my commute if I had to drive the "gauntlet of temptation" every day.

Now I'm curious -- I wonder what is the actual breakdown for compact tractors in this country? That is, what percentage of owners are driving green, blue, etc.?

Anybody seen that statistic?

Working on it, Harv... a lot harder than you'd think to get such information.

Thanks all of you for your help/advice. Unfortunately, while I was contemplating (and searching for cash) someone who had the cash got the tractor. Oh well, such is life on the prairie. I'll keep my eyes open for another deal.
