I have read through a number of the old posts on bi-speed turn option. Comments seem mixed at best.
I spoke to one the dealers here and he indicated that >50% of 2410's he sells have bi-speed option. He also indicated that he could not recall a single case where bi-speed problem/malfunction was reason for service. The latter claim may be true or may represent the old expression ... "He has a good memory, it's just short". Anyone out there with bi-speed option willing to share their experience (good or bad) in terms of it's usefulness and whether they have required additional servicing because of it? Thanks, Lyle |

We have sold the bi-speed turns on tractors for a number of years and have had only one problem and that was a seal leak on the top shaft for your engagement. We do not find it a must have unless; you have to mow on steep hills and need the four wheel drive. It does make turning under that type of condition easy. I haven't had anyone tell me of more of a benifit to them.

Bi speed turning feature seems to be very popular in the northeast and very seldom ordered or sold by dealers down this way.
We have sold only three units with bi speed in over 10 years. We have not found many folks that wanted to pay extra for a benefit that ,"to them" ,made very little difference in productivity . We sell most our units with loaders as well as mm mowers. Since Bi Speed needs to be "turned off" with loader operation ,it had less value to our shoppers. I think the mfg. has phased out bi-speed on most of the new models. We almost never hear of a problem with bi-speed, but we have almost none in our region to hear about. My advice ... It's extra money to invest... make sure you really need it. |

I was interested in your observation that the bi-speed is more popular in the northeast. I live in eastern Canada. Do you think it's popularity in the northeast is due to sales/marketing strategy or would there be some other reason such as operating conditions (snow, ice, etc) where there would be benefit?
Now for the really dumb question. Why does the bi-speed have to be turned off during loader operation? Thanks, Lyle |
