2013 Kubota BX2370
I am pretty set on a new or near new BX1870. I got a quote from a local dealer for a new one with 54" deck, grill guard, and loader for $13,800, including tax. I then found a guy on Craigslist selling a BX1870 that he bought in May with 64 hours for $11,500. 50hr service has been done and it would include all of the above (minus grill guard), a carry all attachment, plug aerator, and sprayer. Tractor looks new and after talking with the guy he is the type that waxes the mowing deck, if that says anything.

Which would you go with? Build up your relationship with the dealer and try to have them come out at $13k flat or go with the slightly used one and try to get it for $11k? Thanks!

You'll save a couple thousand going used BUT you will have no warranty. Not sure how important that is to you. Good luck either way.

I would probably go used since there is very little difference between the two. You would save $2300 and gain a couple of extra attachments. I'm not sure but I think the remainder of the warranty would transfer over to you. The only other consideration is the 0% for 60 months financing available if you buy new. You might do a bit better on the price of either but I don't suspect they'll move much.

10 months of the 24 month warranty would be gone. That counts for something. Thanks guys.

Would that shortened warranty worry you guys? worth the extra $2k?

Hi from Grand Rapids!

Sixty-four hours is basically nothing, and $2300 and a few extra attachments is a huge bonus. Even if you don't want those attachments, you can sell them (on Craigslist or similar) and recover an even bigger difference. I'd definitely go for the used tractor for less money if it's exactly what you'd be buying new!

Which dealer are you working with? I tried to work with Kubota of West Michigan and had an awful experience. The guys at Kent Equipment were great, and that's where I'd go if I ever end up shopping Kubota again.

I favor PARKANZKY's response.

You probably have to pay sales tax on a new tractor. You probably won't pay sales tax on a private person to private person transaction.

Kubota and other tractor manufactures are pretty tough on warranty claims. What you think should be a warranty claim, the manufacturers usually call operator error. And I favor the manufacture's response most of the time in the debates written about here.

If you want 'better' check into Kubota's KTAC (Kubota Tractor Acceptance Corp.) insurance. You can contact KTAC through this site.

I trust you have good reasons for buying the lightest BX model.

Are both tractors equipped with a Front End Loader (FEL) that most useful of tractor options?

If everything works, then I'd go with the used one, like Parkanzky said - 64 hours is nothing.
Check the fan for damage - that's the only weak point that I'm aware of on the BX's that might bite you.
If you do get it, I'd consider investing some of the savings in (underarmor?).
Basically an aftermarket skid plate that gives added protection to the fan from the odd stray stick or rock.
Most owners never need one, but if you think you may stray from the lawn into the woods, it may be worthwhile.

Check with other dealers (Barlows for one delivered to your door price) for new price with full Kubota warranty and also ask about used ones from the dealers. Barlows was taking pics Friday of his used inventory for I suspect sale prices. Used inventory is owned by the dealers new inventory is usually not. If your financing the new one is probably less expensive than the used one. Also if your considering used then don't limit your search to just one BX size unless you have a specific reason.:2cents:

All good info guys, thank you. I have focused on the BX1870 because I think it will meet all of my needs (mowing, some loader work, clearing snow, etc.) and it will be the newest tractor I can buy for the money. I originally wanted a JD 1025R but realized out the door new, or even used, they are out of my budget. My budget is $14k all in and I figured with an $11k tractor that will allow me to buy some implements, add some lights, etc. if needed without making the wife mad.

I am very low hours and newest year sensitive -- maybe even more so than I need to be. I want to keep the tractor for a long time and I figure if one is 5 years old then 5 years of its life may be gone, even if it only has ~200 hours or so. This has been limiting me looking at larger tractors and I am not even sure I need one bigger.

Yes, Kent Power is the place I was going to go with for servicing. They seem to get good reviews. Thanks!
