Is it possible to acquire an implement that doesn't fit my BX25D top hitch mount? I acquired an auger off Amazon and it shows up next day in a casket. I crack it open and its study and appears like a great deal at $440,,,then the doofus phase sets in when it won't fit into my top hitch mount. My wife is still laughing. Its a DirtyHandTools model 90 and it appears the boom end and my BX top mount are the same size. I contacted the seller and they tell me I need a different size pin. After my eyes shot out of my body they can't comprehend what I'm telling them so I send them the photos below...and again they send me an email telling me I need a different pin size. I don't think I'm that stupid..but according to the misses maybe I am. Can any one put this issue in terms I can understand. I was just going to grind an 1/8 of the boom and slide her in to resolve it but really wanted to know what the root of the issue is. I thought upward compatibility existed on the 3 pt hitch chart (ie cat 0, fits a Cat 1 but not downward).

Just taking a guess here, but I'm thinking that the ears on your top link are tapered in for reasons unknown. Measure the gap further down and see if this is the case. If so, a body shop would have the ability to spread them out to proper specs.

I just bought the BX25D1 a few weeks ago. The chart I found online reflected a Cat 1 mount should be 1.75 in width and it is spot on. I'm thinking some kid/engineer in China stepped out of the k12 path around k6 and read the Cat 1 specs and made the boom at 1.75 also. Or maybe its just me...

Well, I can assure you it has nothing to do with the pin. I guess you'll have to decide whether to grind it/machine it to fit or send it back.
PS: I have been married 38 years and I don't think there has ever been a moment where my wife wasn't laughing at me about something. Just consider yourself a natural entertainer!

What you ran into is not uncommon. The toplink mounts are not a standard size between tractors. I've had to machine stuff and make adapters to get things to fit my John Deere. So the good news is you're not a doofus!

It shouldn't be hard to make an adapter.

Doesn't look like your ears aren't straight, so maybe you should just grind off the boom. I don't think you will weaken or compromise anything by doing so. If you got the whole PHD for $440, the for the money you saved, you could hand file off that 1/8"! (but, I didn't see the auger itself in the box...?)

Great advice Varmint & others.. I just wasn't certain if I was missing something. I spent 20mins grinding and boom she now fits! Its a solid PHD and the Amazon $440 included shipping to my house so I should have anticipated a few issues. Pic's of finished product below...and a hundred or so holes that lie ahead. Thanks folks! Very appreciative.

That was a dynamite deal, Mega! Drill some holes in the ground. Be sure to use appropriate shear bolts if you snap one off on a rock or root.

So, have you used and abused it? How's it holding up?
