Can I expect to receive any discount on implement purchases purchased alone without a tractor deal? And if so, what can I expect?
I would not expect much discount off "list", and sometimes list prices aren't always the same too...
It was my understanding from last trip to Kubota dealer that markups were not 30 percent as I thought, but closer to 15%. At least that's what they said about z turns and the F mower I just bought. That means if you can get 10 percent off, which I did, you are doing well. I find I get about a ten percent discount off at parts if I squawk a little or am buying a lot. Lot more profit in parts we all know.
It's one thing to pay list price for a 600 dollar rear blade, another thing to pay list price for a $6K small grain drill.
I'd try to buy two implements and ask if you can get them both for X-10 percent, try that. They can only say no...
If one has ever owned a retail store, as I have (Radio Shack) you know you have to make some profit somewhere...but long term relationships still hold in this business and you'd better make the buyer feel like they are getting good value, regardless of the price asked.
I bought a 20k F mower and the sales guy didn't show up to train me on it, nor has he followed up to see how I liked it.
He won't get my call next time. For me this is still a people business.
