I was planning on purchasing a L4330 with L853 loader. I need to take care of 110 acres. Mowing with very steep terrain, loader, backhoe applications, auger for fence posts, road maintenance, moving 3x3x8 square hay bales, and maybe tilling 1-5 acres. Have to maintain next to river; so lots of moving floated-up trees and debris and dirt and rock. I am now thinking the L4330 just doesn't have enough ooomph for my application, so rethinking to purchase a L5030.
Opinions about best tractor for this application?
Has anyone bought a 5030 with la853 loader with quick detach and R4 tires this year? What is a good price? Not interested in cab model.

Your application sounds heavy duty, Mike. Might want to consider an M series utility Ag tractor. Maybe an M5700 or M6800. They have more weight, better ground clearance, wider stance, stronger hydraulics and larger displacement engines. They would tend to be more stable than a CUT, even one as large as the L5030. Might also be more bang for the buck, though I haven't priced one.

I'd consider the L4330 as marginal for the work you describe. It's be OK as a second tractor, but I'd want something with some beef for the main mover.

you might consider an M, the basic models are cheaper than the L5030, the hydraulic shuttle 5700's are quite a bit more. If its an occasional use machine and your not used to running equipment stay in the L-Series and make due.

The main reason I went with a Grand L5030 instead of a ag tractor was the HST. If you don't want the HST I would compare a comparable HP ag tractor - M Series.

After 125 hours of seat time on my 120 acres with a lot of loader work and mowing, the HST made my decision the right decision for me.

If you don't have a need for a smaller tighter turning tractor and are not stuck on HST get into a utility tractor. Price may be the same or slightly less. You'll get more tractor and hydraulics and more stability.

I had a 43 hp New Holland full size compact and now a 70hp New Holland utility tractor. The stability between the two is very noticeable.

I think the only difference between the L4330 and L5030 is engine HP and a frame that is a half a size bigger.

I was looking really had at the L5030 with cab to replace my 43 hp New Holland. I'm sooo glad I went into the utility tractor frame. Don't get me wrong the L5030 is a very great machine and has it applications but for me utility tractor was the way to go.

Thanks for the replies. I will look closely at other options - I like the 5030.

DML, I bought an L5030 Dec 15th 2004. I got the 853 FEL, QA Heavy Duty bucket with cutting edge, Top N tilt kit, fluid in tires, work lights and Ag tires, Westindorf top, for $26,100.

I only have about 100+ hours of pilot in command time on tractors but some of that was on other brands with similar horsepower. I can't really speak for the big utility tractors (God, don't let me drive one, I would probably buy one too)

I have been pushing / uprooting 12 - 14" shallow rooted trees (in NW Arkansas Ozark rock) over with no problem. I've been dragging bundles of them over 100 yards. The HP is amazing and I haven't run the RPM above 60% or 1800 RPM (still under 50 hours and breaking it in). I have 65 acres to maintain.

I got most of my information and advice off this site from senior members like Frank F15, . I attribute my successful purchase to their recommendations and hints.

I went with the 4330 and if I had to do it over again I would go the 5030 route. The extra HP is very handy. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif
