$increment from BX24 to B7800

My dealer has quoted a BX24 at $15500 or $17100 with 60" MM Mower. Have been reviewing the specs and think the BX will be somewhat limited for work down the road. That got me thinking about an HST B7800 with FEL and Backhoe and mid PTO...sort of a super BX24. Seems like it would be alot more tractor.

Lawn mowing would be a big part of its work as will be digging out stumps. The future holds some drainage work on my farmland.

Searching the site for B7800 pricing info didn't yield much. Does anyone have a ballpark idea of what the increment might be to go from either of the BX24 configurations quoted to a mid PTO equipped B7800 with the same attachments? I figure for a $4K or $5K jump, it might be worth it; anymore and I probably couldn't justify it right now.

Has anyone done this?

I think rather than focusing on cost, you should focus on work you will want to do with the tractor over the long term.

I have a B2910 and a BX2200. They are in a different class as far as work that can be done goes. I don't have a backhoe for the BX, but I do for the B2910.

My B2910 with Woods RD6000 RFM cut grass as well as the BX2200 with MMM does, in my opinion, in open areas. The MMM is MUCH better around things.

Since you have 55 acres, you will have ample opportunity to work whatever tractor you get. The BX has a lot less ground clearance, less ability to get power to the wheels, less loader capacity and is just less tractor as far as being able to do real work goes. Same can be said of the B series, when compared to the L series, just a fact of tractor life and not meant to be a put down.

Myself, I if I had the property you do, I would not settle for less than the B7800. UNLESS grass cutting is VERY important to you. The reason being that the larger tractor does weigh more and all things being equal, will probably leave more marks in your grass than the lighter BX would. I was satisfied with the way my B2910 with RFM mowed, but I'm not that picky.

The BX is a nice machine, but it really is less "tractor" than a larger tractor is. Fact of life. I love having the bx, but when it comes to needing to do work, I call on the B2910. Night and day difference.

I'm not sure if I remember correctly, but I think my B2910 with loader and BL4690 backhoe, with two buckets, and woods RFM, cost me about 7K over what a BX22 with MMM would have cost.

You get more pounds per dollar each time you step up in tractor size. With tractors, more pounds equates to more work capability.

Frankly, with 55 acres, even if you are not doing much with them except making walking trails and cutting some grass around the house, I think the BX would be too small to satisfy my needs. ONLY because I have one of each size that you are considering, so I have some feel for the performance differences.

Thanks, Henro, that was a lot of help. Just what I was hoping for, input from someone who has worked with both. Looks like I'll save awhile longer for the larger machine. Maybe Kubota will come out with a B30.
