I may be getting a backhoe for my 3240. I can see how a thumb would be very useful, but I've never operated a BH that "handy", if you'll pardon the pun. In fact, my entire BH experience is limited to a few hours on a JD 310.

Pardon my ignorance, but does a thumb get in way when digging?

Good Question. I've been wondering the same thing.

I have the Wallenstein thumb. It locks in several different positions. When you are using it and you have in a down position then yes, it will get in the way of fully crowding the bucket. However it takes all of 15 seconds to pull the pin and lock it in the up position, out of the way, when you are not using it and then it is completely unobtrusive.

The above statement is also 100% true in regards to the Woods BH & thumb.
