I need to change out my oil seal on the PTO shaft today. For some reason, I thought I was supposed to remove the backing plate...the one with 6 or so bolts securing it.

When I picked up the seal from the dealer, however, I was told the old seal just needs to be pulled out, off of the shaft, with the plate intact.

Can anybody confirm or deny?

Thanks fellas!

I remember taking off the plate when I did my B6100. Not that I ever do things the right way though!

Well, great question. Some time ago I bought both the seal and the gasket for the plate as I figured you had to pull the plate. Been waiting till I got around to changing the oil in the rear before pulling the plate.

Let me know what you find out... might be easier than I thought!

Easy as pie!

Tap out the old one (seal has an outer lip that is easily accessible), and tap in the new one.

No need to remove the plate.
