I'm looking at a replacement for my 3430hstc and test drove a new 3240hstc and the cab is much much quieter than my 05 3430hstc. I looked at the specs and both tractor have the same displacment engine so the quiet must come from the new cab design. Anyone else notice the difference?
My 3430 is 85 db at pto rpm I will check tomorrow and see just how much quieter the 40 series cab is. Mark 3430hstc |

Well I just had to know just how much quieter the new 40 series cabs were. I did the same test I did on my 3430hstc with the exact same db meter and was amazed at the results.
78 db was the highest reading on the 3240hstc at pto rpms. The best I have ever got on my 3430 was 84 db and that was after adding dynomat to the firewall (2 layers), the floor (1 layer) and adding a dynomat hood liner. All that added up to a wopping 1db decrease in sound. If you look at the engine spec the 3240 has the same engine identical spec as the 3430 but 2 pto horsepower less for the 3240. My thoughts are the new 40 series tractor engines are detuned with engine injection timing adjustments or a lot quieter muffler system to get the decrease in sound. I really don't think it is the cab design. I looked for any additional sound deadner in the new cabs and have found none. It has to be the engines are quieter. What ever the case it is much better and now just as quiet as the green cabs. Mark |
