Hi, I'm new here and I've owned my bx since it was new. I think since 1999. I was was mowing the other day and all of a sudden it stopped moving. Upon further inspection I notice a trail of hydraulic fluid behind me. I looked under the tractor and it was leaking from the hydro filter. So I pushed it back to the house, added fluid. I noticed that the filter was a little loose so I tightened it up, started the tractor and fluid was started to flow again. Then I stopped the tractor removed the filter and it was blown up like a balloon. I thought something must be wrong with the filter so I installed another and it did the same thing. Any ideas? I really appreciate any help. Thanks in advance

I am new owner of bx24 but I have read other threads where there is reference to hydraulic pressure valve - maybe the valve malfunctioned and has overpressurized your system.

Any idea where the valve is located? Is it inside the rear or mounted outside?

I do not think that a faulty pressure relief valve would cause a filter to loosen. I suspect that it was never tightened properly when replaced. There have been many examples here of filters being punctured by debris, but just loose I think is just loose.

Make sure you check your hydro fluid level and replenish if low.

The filter has always been tight but apparently when it balloons out the filter it causes it to feel loose. I have been through 3 filters and alot of hydraulic fluid, everyone of the filters balloon out the bottom of the filter.

How many hours on the machine?

Sounds like there is something going on inside the transmission causing the pressure on the filter side to build up beyond the pressure capacity of the filter itself. Sounds unfortunate.

I don't recall ever seeing a thread on this particular problem, so I don't think it is common to the tractor. At least I hope not...I have essentially the same tractor as you!

I remember this problem being discussed before. I found one old thread in which oil was spelled oli, thus making it harder to find with a search. There may have been a couple of others and they may not have been BX's.

The tractor has 298 hours on it. I did a search and the symptoms I have sound like something stuck in the pressure relief valve. Does anyone know where this is located?

The problem was discussed before. they had found a restriction in one of the relief valve ports. See threadhttp://www.tractorbynet.com/forums/kubota-owning-operating/109676-help-bx24-hydro-leak.html?highlight=HST+FLUID+LEAK
