Hi - I'm contemplating the L2800 but I see multiple references to the "jerky" operation of the position control.

I did notice this when I looked at the L2800's at the dealer but thougth it was sticky because the 3pt did not have an implement. In contrast the B7800/2320 were not "jerky" and had no implement.

Is this on all L2800/3400's or are just some effected.

More importantly is there a solution for it? If it "jerks" at the dealer should I reject it?

Thank you.

Paul

Paul, the update was done a year or two ago on factory tractors.

Well it was hard to tell if it was as jerky as that.

The L2800 didn't have an implement on it but the B7800 3pt had a smooth motion even at low speeds. The L2800 came up in about 1" increments at the tail end of the 3pt linkage.

I just couldn't get a nice smooth motion out of it - I thought it was just because of no implement - but then why the difference between the B7800 (different valve type but still!).

Any thoughts on criteria for acceptance of a new tractor - I don't want to bring it home only to have to deel with this later.

Sounds like there is a fix (new style valve).

The "fix" was for older (2005) to the new ones that are on the 2007. Not sure what's on 2008 but makes me wonder since you are the second person in a week to make a comment (other comment came from the youtube site). This is what it was like after the replacement... B7800 has quarter inching and L2800 has position control, it is not like the Grand L position control but it is what it is.
The position control on the L2800/3400 is not completely smooth but the first few models it was really bad.

Boy I sure hope Kubota did not go back and start using that old postion control valve again. It would not be a smart move.
If in doubt have the dealer put a box scraper or something simple on it and work the three point to be sure it operates correctly. Brian

Will the L2800 position control with upgraded valve allow fine grading or would the position control accuracy make this difficult? (My old 8N is pathetic trying to get any sort of repeatable position or trying to get a 1/2" height change usually results in 1 to 2". I'd really hate to put 15K into a tractor and have something comparable to the 8N).

Is there any adjustments on the valve or is it install and that's what you get?

The specific tractor I may purchase was manufactored in September 2007 it supposedly was uncrated a few months ago and assembled and is brand new. Does anyone know if this would have the updated valve or how to confirm?

Thanks again.

If you are looking for butter smooth and very precise position control then you would be best looking at a Grand L series tractor rather than the basic L series models.

The L2800 didn't have an implement on it but the B7800 3pt had a smooth motion even at low speeds. The L2800 came up in about 1" increments at the tail end of the 3pt linkage.

An increment of 1" sounds like the old valve. I had one of those on my L3400 when I got it. The new valve (replaced free on my unit in 2006) jerks a little less than 1/4 inch at the ends. Still not infinately smooth like my 1910, but very much better than originally.

This could be an old tractor that was never sold or they didn't have stock on the new valves when it was built. Have the dealer put an implement on it. if it still jerks an inch, don't buy it unless they upgrade it free.
