Tire and Wheels sizing help please!

Hi folks,
This is a follow up to my last thread on tires.
My L3240 has R4's on it and I'd rather switch to R1's for the extra traction in my muddy conditions. A possible trade came up with a guy with a new L4240 with R1's (front 8.3-16 / rear 14.9-24).
These are a bit larger than Kubota's recommendations for the 3240 at (7.2-16 / 12.4-24) but they are still smaller than my R4's (10-16.5 / 420/70-24)
Whatta ya all think? Will they work for my tractor?

As long as they don't rub they should be ok.

You do know that your tires sold at a higher price than the Ag's, right?

JB, thanks for the input.
I know they sold for more but I got a good deal on the tractor and am happy to pass along a good deal to someone else.
As far as up-sizing, I doubt they would rub as the R4's don't and they are larger.
I was more concerned about things like stress on the tranny.

I wouldn't worry about that. Just the front tires possibly rubbing on the loader frame at full turn. It sounds like that won't be an issue, so good to go.

The biggest concern here is the balance of gear ratio from front to rear. See if you could just put them on before buying and drive on a hard and soft surface for 200 foot or so and see how the four wheel drive engages and disengages. We do balance out with air pressure but if it close you might be up to something new.

We like big tires rather then more weight!!!!

I have a 3130 and have ags off a 3830 which are the larger size you mentioned. The clearance for the rear is a little tight and had to move them out 1 setting. They work great. Great traction in mud and snow and actually a little better floatation on turf becauce of the wider rib riding on the ground.

Thanks for the input. I went ahead and made the swap today. The R1's are in great condition and rather than being loaded they have 3 sets of weights which I actually prefer. In the forest I'd rather have the extra stability and in the crops i'd rather move lighter.
As Johnk mentioned, they would be a tight fit on narrow setting so I bumped them out and they clear just fine now.
They passed the roll test and the 4wd lever still shifts smoothly so I assume that there is no extra strain on the tranny.

Only question is if I need to set the fronts wide to match the rears?

So do you mean that your fronts are still on the narrow setting?

The fronts were never moved as i can tell.
