Still looking...
I had a short discussion in another thread, but thought I'd start a new one.

I'm getting close to buying a b7510. Will use it around the house (small yard) for mowing (not really needed, but will use when I don't want to push and feel lazy) and moving some dirt across my lawn. I have a project to where I'm going to be driving across my lawn with a bucket full of clay/rock.

Plus, will use it out at the property for digging, grading, bush-hogging, etc.

Was thinking about getting a set of turf and another set of rims/tires that are R4's (industrial).

Thoughts? Would the industrial tires tear up my yard with a full bucket even if careful and on a hill?

Thanks

Doubt when it comes down to it you will change tires as often as you think.

I have a little heavier tractor with the industrial tires and it normally does not show on my lawn when it is on it for mowing or spraying. Then I don't run on it when wet and my soil is not a soft soil either.

But on you lawn; is it soft with moisture often, what will you be bush-hogging (grass, small trees that leave sharp stump?). I would suspect your best would be turf tires.

For the brush-hog, it will be weeds, possible small trees - definitely not using the turf tires on that.

Turf tires also don't work as well when digging or using the bucket heavy.

Just not sure if the industrial would mess up the lawn with a full/heavy bucket.

Yard isn't too soft because they didn't put a lot of top soil down, but I've been trying to make it softer....

since this topic has been beaten to death, I'll tell you the truth. I chose the R4's on my BX2350 because I thought they looked cool as ****. The fact that they work really well in the winter and don't mark my lawn is just a bonus. The turf's just don't look good to me. Anyone else?

If you di decide to but two sets, I would skip the R4's and get the ags and the turfs. The R4's are a compromise between the two, more traction than turfs and not as hard on the lawn as ags. If you want to tread lightly, use the turfs, if you got a lot of dirt work to do, use the ags.

If you only buy one set, Id get the r4's. It might be just a little harder on the lawn, but you'll be glad you did when it comes to loader/dirt work.

Personally i perfer the ags. But I do a lot of dirt work and firewood cutting/pulling trailers and logs. I also use it to mow my lawn, and if it's dry, It dont hurt the lawn at all...if I take the loader off.

If it is a little wet/soft in places, yea it ruts it up a little, but at least I get through it where as turfs get stuck so easy. But that's me, I live in the country and dont give a crap about my yard. Personally I hate mowing it. It would not bother me at all if a farmer spilled a tanker full of roundup in my yard that way I wouldn't have to mow it all year, or the next.

Never thought about the winter - we don't get a lot here, but do get some snow and ice and our driveway is on a hill -- would be nice to move it out of the way and would probably need the industrial's to do that - turf would probably spin

Also, if I go with one, it saves me money!!

:)If the ground is hard and you're not in 4wd they Ags will be fine on your lawn.

It doesn't sound like blazing new roads will be you gig so as much as i feel everyone with a tractor needs R1's you should stick to one set and go with R4's. Your loader work will go great and the lawn should not suffer if you pay attention to the time you do it.

I got ags and turfs with my BX in 2000. Ags cause no extra damage to lawn, but turfs spin when trying to plow. Turfs have sat under the house for past 8 years.

I also bought an electric impact wrench with correct size lug socket and hydraulic quick stroke jack from Harbor Freight, for about $30 each when they were on 1/2 price sale. This allowed for NASCAR style quick wheel change.

Tom H - Very interesting... So you have the turf tires and the ag tires? You didn't go with the industrial tires?

I figured the turf would spin when tilling, loader work, etc... but that's why I was thinking the turf for the house and the industrial's for the tough work.

I was actually thinking about getting a set of ag's and a set of turf's, but after everyone's input, I think if I get the industrial only, it would be a good middle road for all work I want to do - yard safe, loader work...

Thanks for the input, that was very useful also
