| Re: Whoa! A Deere Ran Into My 'Bota Shop OK, time for an update. Bear in mind, this is a 20 year old machine.
Got the deck off and cleaned it. Look for yourself. No rust at all to speak of. Spindle seems solid. Reground the blade. Replaced a bolt that was mis-sized. Took it for a test run on the long grass out front.
I gotta tell you, the 9 hp Kawasaki runs like perfection. I have no idea how many hours are on this machine, but 20 years at 100 per makes 2000 hours reasonably on the low side. Frankly, it runs beautifully. The deck seems to be of very thick metal and extremely tall making for terrific lift. You can really turn sharply and it mows up very, very close to things. As yes, it can pop a wheelie if you are not careful!!!
What can I say, it mowed as well as any machine I've seen. A 30" cut isn't very wide but for 1/2 acre lawns or less, it would be fine. Perhaps the "re-gift" idea to a worthy needy person might be exactly right. We shall see.

| Re: Whoa! A Deere Ran Into My 'Bota Shop BP, I'm what I call a "half breed" owner. Have been for several years. I mow with the JD2210 and love it. I do tractor work with the L4400 and love that. I started with a JD455/B2910 combination which worked well also.
You seem surprised by the quality of your little JD. In 1979 I bought a 1974 JD140, used it for 15 years and gave it to my eldest Son, he used it for a few years and gave it to my youngest Son, he used it for a few more years and sold it to an elderly guy in town, he has restored it and still uses it. The engine has been overhauled once, hydro is original. My second JD was a 1990 322 which my youngest Son still uses.
I'd hate to pick a fight about JD/Kubota for durability. I like my Kubota, but I'd probably put my money on JD in the lawn care size.

| Re: Whoa! A Deere Ran Into My 'Bota Shop I'm just wondering why the little guy didn't run into a JD garage. Orange envy is the best I can come up with.

Pleasantly surprised would best describe it.
On another note, went to a dealer downstate today who sells both Deere and Kubota and spent some time sitting on a 24 hp Deere, 2000 series. Tried out the "two pedal" go/reverse system. Gotta say, I could adjust. It wouldn't be a show stopper for me, I don't think. I like the Kubota "rocker" pedal too. I guess I'm easy.

If I could combine my two tractors, taking the best of each, I'd have a heck of a machine. But then it's that the case in everything, trucks, cars, weedeaters, whatever.

| Re: Whoa! A Deere Ran Into My 'Bota Shop Hello
My Dad had one like that but it seemed to me that it was an even older model as it had a 9 or 10 HP Briggs motor
He gave me the mower back in 1981 and I used it to trim around my place (1.5acres)to trim around the house and many trees 40+
That little thing could turn on a dime and never complain about long grass ect.
It lasted me for about 10 yrs when I sold it to a guy that did not want to take no for an answer.
As far as I know he still has it as it was going to be used on a city lot (40'X80')
Along with my old Cub 1650 my combination worked beautifully
Regards DGS
