I have an M9540 and will begin baling next year. For a variety of reasons I have decided to use Vermeer baling equipment. My preferred baler would be the Vermeer 604M due to its flexibility in making 4 to 6 foot bales. The 604M specifications are a minimum of 70 PTO HP with a recommended 90 PTO HP. The Kubota makes 84HP and weighs 9000 pounds with loader. The Vermeer weighs 7000 pounds and probably 8500 with a bale. The area I will be baling is flat bottom land. One Vermeer dealer recommends the 604 while a second dealer recommends dropping down to the 504M. Is anyone using a 604M with a 9540? Suggestions?

I have a M9540 and I pull a JD 567 baler with it. The baler weighs in at 6675lbs, add a six foot bale (2200lbs) and you've got 8875lbs. The 567 recommends 75 PTO HP min. I have had no problems at all. I am not familiar with the vermeer balers, but looking over their specs you should be able to use either one. I would prefer the 604M over the 504M as well. Many of the folks I bale for don't have the equipment to handle the six foot bales. It is nice to be able to just dial up the bale dimensions you want and let the baler computer do the work for you. Good luck with your choice! The M9540 is a fine tractor and will surprise you when you put it to work.

I have had my M9540 for 2 years and have 330 hours on it. I just recently purchased a used Vermeer 605XL. The tractor handled it better than I had expected. I am rolling 5x5 bales of coastal Bermuda.
I looked at the 4' balers originally but found a great deal on the 605.

If you want the larger baler, go for it. Your tractor will handle it easily.

Thanks for the help. I think I will go with the 604. I will post in the early summer how it turns out.

My M9540 handles my NH 650 baler better than my old heavier Ford tractor with the same HP. I work on flat ground so there's no worry of the baler pushing the tractor. The Kubota just seems to spin it easier and RPMs up faster then the Ford did. I make a 5 1/2' X 4' bale.

I pull my 5x5 Vermeer baler with a M6800 62pto hp and it handles it well. I put over 700 bales through it last summer. On steep ground with a full bale it makes it talk though.
