Looks like we have several new buyers of tractors in the last several weeks. I'm seeing questions concerning spreaders, rollers and aerators. I've bought and tried different implements over the years, some I keep and some I've sent to new homes because they didn't or currently don't provide much benefit to me. I've kept a FEL, MMM, BH, Forks, RatchetRake, Boxblade, Tiller, Quick hitchs, Drawbar, single bottom plow and Ferguson Overseeder. Sold toothbar, Landscape rake, Pat's, Big Funnel shaped fertilizer spreader, RFM, Posthole digger and grader blade.
Here are pictures of Ferguson Overseeder which I can use as seeder, over seeder, roller, aerator and fertlize spreader. Must be cleaned well after using for spreading fertilizer as with all fertilize spreaders. It's one of my major keepers which me, my brother and nephew count on using for grass seeding and over seeding. If interested in buying one, check around because I've seen some prices that seem way above what I paid for this. Milkman said they are made in North Western Ky.

If I ever come across one for a reasonable price I am going to buy one.

I think this is the company website...looks like your piece of equipment.

Aerator Products

Been looking at one since you had posted about them earlier. Not that I can likely afford one ***sigh***, but it never hurts to window shop.

Company is located in VA. Don't know if that's just the HQ, and manufacturing might be at other locations.

The 5' Yardmaker is it. Maybe some will post prices of ones they've found and give the dealers name and location. How much Brady?

Core aeration of any kind will benefit turf grass & greatly increase germination rates. If you purchase a 3 point unit, look for a set up with independent turning gang wheels. If you have a 1 peice unit you will tear up the turf when turning! Spike aeration actually increases compaction, core removal is what you want.

With the 3ph this will lift up off of the ground when a turn is made then set back down after the turn is made which also stops the flow of seed and/or fertilizer. I usually just go and tear it up but I could lift it if I was so inclined.:) This can be lifted with 3ph to where spikes are entering ground but not the roller compacting but I just let it compact. I have a yard with grass and weeds and rocks and stuff. My brother the Certified Master Gardener has a lawn that's lush like carpet and he has banned all weeds. He is a believer in books and other specialists theories and all. I don't have a core aerator and neither does he so he uses my spiked roller and his magazine cover yard really looks great. Hope he doesn't read how bad my Overseeder with spikes and not aerators is or he may stop using it.:) I'm sure there are better more perfect implements for every job but maybe they cost more but what I have and have been using for several years is this spiked roller no extra wheels Ferguson overseeder and I'm going to keep using it.:)

Agreed. I understand core aeration is better for yards in general (I own a core aerator). I wouldn't use the Yardmaster for simple aeration. My thought was that something like the overseder above would be best for just that...overseeding. What I am envisioning is that for overseeding, what is most beneficial is to simply get the seeds into good placement in the soil.

If there's an implement that both core aerates and holds/dispenses seeds, that would be better, because it could be used for both tasks. Even if you didn't want to seed, you could aerate when needed.

As for turning with the three point implement without gang wheels, can't you leave the three point "loose". You have to overlook the fact I don't know the names of all the three point parts, but you can you not loosen the bars so that they will swing freely to an extent? As long as you're going slow and careful, and avoided sharp turns, I would think it would keep from gouging the turf. But maybe this is too rough on the hitch? Or, for that matter, couldn't you just attach normally, then lift the 3-point attachment before turning to make your next pass?

Using the tools I have now, I wonder how well it would work to "overseed" by using a broadcast spreader to spread seed, then coming back over the area with the core aerator? If the ground were just a little damp, maybe between the aeration and the weight of the tractor, enough seed would make adequate soil contact to get a decent percent to germinate?

Sorry for the rambling post...the more answers I get, the more questions I have... :confused3:
