This question is for my BIL that is not a member of TBN (yet). He ran his B5100E out of fuel and it won't restart. Could someone please respond on how to bleed the fuel system to get it to start again. I have never owned an older tractor, so I only know how to do it on my BX. Thanks for any responses.

I used to have old cars where I grew up, the way we use to bleed , just put the gas in the tank an put mouth in the tube which goes into carburetor and suck and when fuel starts coming I take my mouth and slide the tube into carburetor. Every time it worked, you can laugh but it works

I don't have a B5100 but do have a B7100 which is of the same era. Newer tractors don't require bleeding if you run out of fuel. But in the older diesel tractors you need to bleed the fuel line of air, or it won't start (airlock). The corollary is never run the fuel tank dry. I have attached the page on bleeding the fuel line from my B7100 manual. The quality is not too good as a PDF scan but if you send me a private message with your email address than I can send you a higher resolution JPG. Perhaps the b5100 is similiar. If not you may find a manual on the internet if the one that came with the tractor has been lost. Note that every tractor brand seems to bleed differently. I had a ford 1700 diesel that only had one step to its bleeding process.
Good luck.

Thank you for both replies, my BIL really appreciates the help.

Mudfarmer, your attached .pdf will really help allot. Thank you very much for taking the time to scan it in for us!!!! This should do the trick.

In addition to that, you may have to crack the injector lines, one by one, at the injector while cranking to get more air out. I know, I've been there with my B7100, had a helluva time. You can bet my tank always has fuel in it now!

Again, thanks for the replies. My SIL informed me today that using Mudfarmers .pdf, they were able to fire up their B5100 within minutes. The bleeding screw was located in the same position as the .pdf.
