Want some input. I cracked the rear transfer case. My dealer has now had my tractor for two months. For the past three weeks they have told me they will have it done by the end of the week. The latest they have said is they got it all back together three weeks ago but the pto did not turn. It is only about 6 months old. Any suggestions?

If it's a new tractor under warranty with the dealer being a selling dealer for that Brand I believe 2 months is to long but I believe there are more details that you haven't shared.

Please inform me what details have i not shared. I filled it under my insurance. I knew i damaged it and it was not a manufactures defect. They have been very nice. Just have not got me my tractor back. This is my first tractor and I just am trying to get an idea of how long service typically takes.

The simple answer is .. yes that's too long.. However there are situations that could make fixing the problem more involved (read: take more time) also some tractor dealers are very small and easily overwhelmed with a heavy repair work load.
I would try to get some answers as to why it's taking so long...

I'm in auto repair, and when we are busy, sometimes the bigger jobs will be shelfed while we try to catch up with work promised to long time customers... We tell people this and we try to stay on top of work load. However your situation may be something else but still acceptable... back order parts, or some other part related delays... problems with repairs, components not repaired properly and the machine has to come apart again... delays can happen. Put multiple repair f-ups together and a lot of time can elapse.

Only you can decide if this delay is understandable, hence acceptable... Ask, point blank: "is there something I should know about why this is taking so long?"

I've had jobs where the customer told me " I'm in no hurry, take your time" only to find out a week later that they really didn't mean it.:)

Did you buy your tractor there? I almost hate to ask, but for some dealerships that matters. I know dealers (of many different tractor colors) that will constantly put off repairs to spite someone for not buying from them. It's an awful way to do business, but happens all the time in this industry.

Yes I bought it there. This dealer is actually 3 hours away from my house. We have a local dealer but I brought it back to this dealer because I bought it there. they have already given the first estimate to my insurance company for like 5k. I tried to send them the money, but they said to wait till they are done, because they might work slower if they had the money.

Funny you should mention about did I buy it there. The main reason I did not go to the local dealer is they said if it was not bought there they would get to it when they got all of there customers done and would stop working on it when tractors came in that were bought there. This is the same dealer that I did not buy it from because when I went back to get it the price mysterously went up 1k...

Yep, that seems too long to me, but as irwin said, it depends on where the "fault" is. When I was repairing mechanics' air tools, I usually got them repaired and back to the customer promptly, but I know there were a couple of times when it took 2 months to get the necessary parts, even asking my supplier nearly every week. There was just nothing I could do about it, and I think my customers understood that.

Sound to me like they're having issues with the repair.. right about now I'd be hoping they fix it right and not fast.. :(
Politely asking them if there are problems with the repair is okay, because if they are having a hard time they are already stressed about it.

Two months is too long. Unless you made the mistake of saying you were in no hurry. This dealer is either under staffed, under educated, or under skilled. There would have to be several problems in a row to jusify a repair of any kind on a Kubota tractor taking that long, unless they didn't even look at it for the first 6 weeks. Backordered parts is even a stretch, backordered parts can be had in 3 days if the dealer knows what they are doing.
