I looked at these today and was really impressed. They both looked like very well thought out tractors.

Do any of you own these models and what say you????

I will be in the market for another tractor very soon so I'm really looking at all options.

Thanks, Sam

Look at the features as the 5640 is a more basic tractor.

A lot depends on what you intend to do with the tractor.

What bells and whistles do you consider essential?

And related - How much do you intend on spending?

Just got a 5640 a couple months ago, shuttle shift works great, but I heard the 7040 is an easier machine to use, I didnt drive one but i guess it goes forward to reverse just by pulling a lever. Porkie, did you end up getting either one?

What type shuttle does your 5640 have? Sync or hyd? I have a 7040 hyd shuttle and yes one just needs to move lever fwd or rev(vice-verse) to change directions,no depressing clutch pedal required.

Its a shuttle, 8 forward and 4 reverse. Pretty basic, but I dont need a wide range of gears to match up with implements and didnt want to spend the extra $ for the hydraulic. I use a logging winch, occasional brush hogging and will probably plow less than half an acre when I get going with gardening next year.

welchmill have a 7040 mech shuddle I have 130hours on it I would trade it in for a hydro shuddle in a min if my dealer finds me a good used one I get tired of clutching while using the loader

I have the 7040 and love it. 8 fwd & 4 rev is enough for me. I actually like the clutch. Hey, I'm driving a tractor not a Prius.

Heck, I can still use my foot clutch if I feel all nostalgic, still waiting for that to happen though.

I bet it took me six moths before I quit instinctively using my foot clutch after trading my synch-shuttle Case in.
