My old B7100 has very old (possibly original from 1984) turf tires, which are 29x12.00-15. I have the opportunity to get a couple of used truck tires (free) that are 33x12.50-15. The tractor is two-wheel drive, so no issues with front vs. back tire size. Will these mount up and is there any reason not to do this?

I think I have enough clearance to the fenders. Main use is mowing (belly mower) and hauling firewood from the woods. I have some steep hills and I could use a bit more traction. These truck tires look to have more lug on them than the turf tires, but less than ag or industrial tires so I think they'd be a good compromise in terms of tread for my purposes.

All help appreciated!

Dont know if it will work or not but if you do please let us know and throw us a pic.

I would guess it would work but Truck tires are stiff and designed for more weight and higher PSI's than the back tires usually are. Maybe a bumpy ride??

Please let us know!

Thanks for the response. I think if I try this I'll hang onto the old tires. Also, the fronts could use replacing as well (18x8.50-8), and I guess if I went with a bit taller tire there it would even up the distance.

I was wondering if the stiffness might actually reduce the traction, an interesting point. I wonder how little air I could put in and not have them come off the rim?

They might work but unlikely to fit the tractor rims.

Wolfy, please tell me more about the rims. The 29x12.00x15 turf tire is supposed to fit a 10" rim from what I can find online (so I'm assuming that is what is on the tractor), and the 33x12.50x15 truck tire shows approved rim width of 8.5-11 inches. Is there a difference in the shape of the rim on the tractor tires?

Firestone says their turf tires in your size are for a 10 inch wide rim, and are rated to 2260 lbs at 30psi. That sounds exactly like a pickup tire to me, just not speed rated. In the Yanmar world, Hoye Tractors does exactly this conversion for machines comparable to your B7100.

The price is right, just try it. Fill them with ballast, too, and go to work. Just make sure the extra height will clear your mower deck and any other obstacles on the tractor.

I could be wrong on this, but someone told me the lip on a truck rim is thinner than the lip on a tractor rim. A tire shop should know. You also want to see if you have enough fender clearence for wider tires, although some rims can be flipped out.

I see what you mean about the Yanmars, found this post:

Tried to call them but they are closed for the day. It's not clear whether they change the rims to do this, but seems like the tires would be an OK choice if they will fit the rims.

This also raises the question of whether anyone knows if there are some 6-lug truck rims that would fit on the Kubota B7100.
