which is better ,thinking about trading in my m4900 for the newer style m5140 . am I going backwoods from a 5 cylinder to a 4 cylinder ,is the m4900 better built?I like to get a hydraulic shuttle and a 3rd remote but thats not worth it if the new 5140 is less machine.

If its anything like the M5040 then its a good tractor.I like my 5040 but havent heard the reason for the change. They were just coming out with the 5140 when I purchased mine and got a really good deal with the new number change.

I think the 5140 is a "deluxe" machine. I'm not all that familiar with them but I think you'll find they come with some of the features that you find on the GLs (like nicer 3pt arms.). Plus you can get it with a cab. I don't know if you would use the extra features but I would say the 5140 is a step up, not down, from the mx4700. It's probably a heavier tractor and will offer higher ratings on the 3pt and fel.
