Here is what the block heater looks like (orange block at center of photo) installed on MX5100.

Is the block heater or a radiator one better?

Block heater. We plug ours in an hour before starting on a zero degree morning, longer if the weather is colder, and they fire right up. My L5740, although the dealer installed it as standard equipment up here, sits in a heated garage because its job is to clean up so we can move around so it's block heater has never been tested. I assume it will work like those on our larger Deeres and New Hollands.

I have the block heater on my 5740. It is located on the left side over the starter. I can post some pictures later this week.
