    Pappa, the gross includes the trailer weight, not just what's on the trailer. I bet that's what you meant - but just for the record...

    That is what I meant z. Thats why I had such a hard time believing what the guy at the trailer manufacturing place tried to make me believe.

    For towing I usually use a strap. A careful slow pull.

    Yes, and compare that to the coupler that came with my 7,000 lb. Car Hauler:

    The dealer also reminded me to check (a) my 2" ball to see if it is just 5,000 lb., in which case I need a stronger one, and (b) the 2" receiver itself, onto which the 2" ball is bolted (or welded). Good points!
