I recently changed my fuel filters and used JOHN Deere metal filters at a cost of $6.10 each. kubota filters cost $9.47 each. Talking to the head mechanic at Kubota and he said the metal filters were not good. He said they could cause a problem. He didn't say what. I figure if john Deere uses them on there diesel tractors why not on my kubota. I'm not a mechanic but if there was such a problem someone on this site would surely have an answer.

I wouldn't worry about it. Personally if I weren't going back with the OEM filter I'd just pick one up from NAPA for $4 instead of Deere for $6.

What JD filter did you use JD makes one as a water trap. It is just a 100 mesh screen. If that is what you have then you minimal filtering and you will be having injection troubles in no time.
