Tires...black, round, hold air...so how can you have a question about those

Well if it was a car I would be livid....but with a new tractor I just don't know. If you don't know the history here is the cliff notes version (I doubt kids know what that is)

Just bought a tractor, today is really the first time I looked hard at the tires....never crossed my mind. But to me they look weather cracked. The tractor is a week and one day old....and currently has ~ 14 hours. It lives in the barn or my shop every night.

This is what both back tires look like. Should I make a call to the dealer about this, or is it just not that big of a deal. The front tires show no signs of this.

I would not accept those tires on a new tractor. I would insist that they be replaced.

Don't look like knew tires. Should have manufacturing date on rubber around the rim. It will have a tire code followed by month and year made. Example: BETJNX0113. That would be made in Janurary(01) 2013 (13).

Is the tractor "new", as in made in late 2013 or in 2014, or it a "new", as in had not been sold before?
Remember some tractors sit on dealers lots for years. They are considered "new" until sold.

Regardless when they were made, whether they were sitting in the sun for 2 years or not, a tractor sold as 'new' should not have tires with UV or manufacturing defect cracks on them.

I'm with Johnny g - I'd be visiting the dealer with a closeup photo & asking for a discount or new tires.

The tractor had less then an hour when I went and played with it at the dealer. After I was done it had a tick over 1hr. When they brought it out I think it had 3....they did tell me that the grapple was the first one they installed and they did play with it a bit.....I really did not have a problem with that.

Is there a way to tell from the VIN what year it is?

It looks like they sat for some time flat. Even if the tractor is brand new there's nothing saying that they didn't have a leftover that they sold to a buyer who wanted a different style tire. I wouldn't accept them. My tires are 5 years old now, kept in an unheated garage and have no dryrot at all. Tires are expensive, it one fails you are out of pocket quite a bit of money.

Did you inspect the tractor before the purchase? Were the tires not the same then?

You have responsibility as a buyer too!
