Tractor
kubota L3130
I'm new to the site and also a new home owner with 11 acres. I have also just bought a Kubota L3130 and wonder what your guys thoughts are on this tractor for the size of land I have?

thanks

Welcome to TBN.
L3130 + 11 acres sounds about right to me!
I went looking for an L3130 about 7 years ago, but bought an L3240 because the L3130 had been discontinued and I couldn't find a used one for sale. For the amount of power, they are built like tanks and will give you many years of trouble free service if well maintained.

What jobs do you plan to do with the tractor?

Perfect;I had one for 4 years,did all well.Six ft . snow plow,two bottom (dirt)plow,roto-tiller,bush-hog ect.
Only traded to get a cab;we recently purchased a L3000DT open station which is very similar in size and horse-power to the L3130 but with gear transmission.

Welcome to TractorByNet!

I moved your thread to the Kubota Owning & Operating forum. :)

We have one and love it. If you want to do big jobs, you will find the power limits (it is the lowest power model in that series if I recall right)... It does everything I need and more. Yes, I would have bought with more horsepower and cab if I had the money to spare, but this tractor meets my needs..

I love my 3130. It has the 723 loader and did and still does everything I need it to do.

Ahhh, the L3130... The little tractor that not only could - but did!

We have just over 18 acres and can't imagine life around here without our L3130. It's a TANK, a workhouse, and virtually indestructible. The only things I've ever broke on the tractor were my own fault. I bent the step taking down a 4" diameter tree after running over the trunk, I busted the headlight doing something similar, and I hosed a cylinder on the FEL trying to force a HUGE tree up by the roots.

I've plowed 5 acres using a single bottom plow - and I'm 100% confident I could have used a double bottom plow if I could have found one to buy. I'm currently tilling said 5 acre section with a Landpride RTR 1274 tiller - which the dealer said would likely be too much for the L3130 (he was wrong). I've got a 5' Bush Hog that only slows the L3130 down in really heavy/thick grass - wouldn't think of going smaller. We use the Bush Hog to cut Huisache trees down and the L3130 seems to love that chore. I've got a 5' box blade we use regularly as well. Not to mention the multitude of post holes we dug in the vineyard using the L3130 (210 holes last week alone).

And - ya'll ready for this... Yesterday we rescued a Dodge RAM 3500 Dual Cab Dually that was buried up to its axles in mud WITH a 20 foot gooseneck trailer on the back. Hooked a tow strap to the trailer, per 'er in low, and pulled the truck right out. I've also got an M7040 giving me a choice of which "weapon" I needed to get the truck out of the mud. I only hesitated a second before going with the L3130 (mostly because the Little L has R4 tires and the Big M has R1's).

My M7040 has a CAB and I'd really like another smaller tractor - like the L3130 - with a CAB as well, but I'll likely keep the L3130 even after I buy the smaller CAB'd unit. The L3130 just does too many things well to let it go!

Oil change question.
Father-in-law asked me to change the oil in his L3130.
His manual lists API Service CD, CE, and CF; as well as 10W-30 as an ok viscosity.
But when I went to buy oil, none (like Pennzoil) listed the "C's".
So is current API standard listed good to go for a diesel?
It bothers me that the label states good for al gasoline engines, but does not mention diesels.
