M9540 transmission options and road speed

I have a 9540 in the 24 speed option. The speedo shows 26 mph wot. I believe it to be accurate as I travel fairly quick between my farms.

24 speed.

Something to keep in mind with this discussion is tire type and size. My M8540HD12 tops out at 15 or 18 MPH, however I have R4s which are significantly shorter than the R1 offerings for that model. Everyone should include their tire type/height along with their trans configuration for an apples-to-apples comparison.

The m60 series are faster. I have a M7060 with the 12 speed and r1 tires and it will do 25mph

I think that they "set up" euro tractors with higher road speeds. I wonder if Canada is equipped the same? On our roads here, I'd need a 5 point racing harness to stay anywhere near the tractor at 25 mph:laughing:

My M9540 12 speed shows 23+ mph on the road unless I hit a hill. The 8 speeds are painfully slower.

The M60 12 speed tractors are electronically governed in H6 to roughly the same. Defeat that and you might squeeze 3-4 more mph out of it.

Have you seen mention of anyone doing this? I have been looking with little luck. Overriding The 1960RPM limit (24.3mph or 38.9kph) and letting it turn 2400 would on paper give you 5.5Mph more (29.8mph or 47.95kph)

I have not.

My dealer and I fantasized about it over lunch one day but as far as I know he never looked in to actually doing it.

I'll bring it up tomorrow and see what he says.

Let me provide a bit of info here. Lets take two tractors - one tops out at 18mph, the second is a "racer" and tops out at 24mph.

Now lets do a bit of math and see what happens.

Over a ten mile distance- the "slow" tractor will take - - 33 minutes, the "racer" will get to the end in 25 minutes

The same tractors over a five mile run - slow boy gets there in 16.5 minutes, racer is there in 12.5 minutes

Again over a 2.5 mile run the "turtle" will arrive in 8.25 minutes, 'ol fastie is there in 6.25 minutes

IMHO - I would be a little more concerned with the abilities of the unit rather than its speed.

What ever, it feels good when I drop out and pass my neighbor on his (other color) tractor. No, I'm not joking.
