Does anybody know if there is a way to adjust the rate of lift on a L3400. Whenever I go to lift an attachment, It lifts extremely too fast and jolts the whole tractor. Kinda impractical when precision is needed. I know there is an adjustment for how fast/slow the attachment is LOWERED. I would just like to slow down the rate of lift. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Dave, I think the only way you can slow the lift rate is to reduce engine RPM or learn to feather the lever. Like you said, the adjustment knob only adjusts the lowering rate.

I've noticed the same thing on my L2800. The 3pt arms move pretty quickly, and it really can knock you around. I did adjust the lowering speed and lowering is better now. Also, I've found that the position control lever doesn't seem to move the lower link arms up much until I get to setting #4 and higher, then it seems it is always a big movement. I have discovered the best way for me to get the right setting is to raise my shredder or BB all the way up, and slowly lower it to the desired level. Feathering the 3pt control up is really difficult when the arms move so quickly. I only have 15 hours on my tractor, and am hoping this problem will diminish as I use it more.

In my opinion, No, it won't, but it will "seem" to diminish as you get more accustomed to it. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Takes some getting use to, doesn't it? Remember that those first numbers (1 to 3) are for the very lowest point that the 3-point hitch can go, and when you hook up an implement, the lower arms are already UP near the #4 position. Not many implements can go low enough to let the arms down to 1 or 2, so you have to raise the position control lever past that before anything happens.

Thanks folks..Under the seat is where tho knob is to adjust the rate of drop. Right beside it there is a knob about 2 inchel long...threaded, with what looks to be a locking nut on it. I was hoping that would be some kind of adjustment that restricts thu fluid flow. Making things happen slower. The mechanic where I got my tractor is supposed to be getting back to me. I will keep you all posted on what he says. The biggest problem I have been running into is the fact that the L3400 is new this year. When I ask a question sometimes it is even new to them and it takes a little research time.

Bota told me on my BX that

the lowering aspect of the 3-point hitch.

One of the reasons I love TBN is when someone writes an answer that makes you smack your forehead and scream DUH! /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif I probably wouldn't have thought about that until it had driven me nuts for a decade. Thanks Bird

Don't feel bad, Mike; it only took me a year or two to realize why my 3-point didn't start to raise until I got up around that number 4 position. /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Other than wanting your mower at 540 PTO, you can run much slower. That may be the reason you're having such a speedy rate up, you're running the RPM higher than necessary. John

I experimented this evening with engine RPM. Even with the RPM down to idle speed - or - as slow as the engine will go, it is still herky jerky. Engine RPM seems to have no or at least an un-noticeable difference. Of course I only had a drawbar attached to the lift arms. Maybe there would be a noticeable difference with a heavier attachment such as my finishing deck.
