In the past, I've bragged here about my L4150. It is a terrific tractor - lots of power - heavy enough to handle serious attachments. Recently I've been looking for a quick-detach backhoe for it - but a decent one is hard to find.

Two weeks ago I saw a 1995 L5450 with 11-ft Bradco hoe and I was hooked. The L5450 has 670 hours.

If anybody knows a good reason why I shouldn't take this plunge please speak now. Next week will be too late.

By the way, there's a really good L4150 over in "classified"

Check out the Bradco backhoe, most don't have replaceable bushings... I understand can get "sloppy" from what others have said.

The L5450 4WD avg. auction prices range from $7400-$9500 to give you an idea of pricing.{w/o attachments of course}.

I believe this is also "Direct injection"... I like it!/w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

John - thanks for the info. The cheapest L5450 I've seen still went for north of 20k with LA1150 loader and 11HD Bradco, showing 2200 hours, and worn tires.

The hoe is very tight - maybe hasn't been on the tractor for the whole 670 hours. Thanks for the bushing tip. As I look at the L5450, I see a tractor with more engine, more weight, more muscle all around than even the new L48, but at way less money. Am I missing something?

Dick, I still have my 4150/4850/5450 brochure from Kubota.
Specs for 5450 are pretty close to my 4850, except larger loader, more displacement (152.5 vs 167.6) Weight 4080 vs 4410, without attachments, ballast etc. The 5450 has 59.5 hp, 49 PTO hp, direct injection 5 cylinder, tank holds 15.9 gals. of diesel, 8.5 qts. of oil, cooling 8.5 qts. also, transmission 45.5 qts., . Clutch is wet type, 8 forward and 8 reverse gears, 13.0 gpm on hydraulic pump, lift 24" rear of arms is 3200lbs, hydrostatic steering, turning radius 9.5'. There is more but you get the idea. I still think the L4850 is hands down the nicest tractor of the compacts of all brands I have ever used. I have not used the L5450 but must assume it comparable since it is so similar with the exceptions noted. Lift capacities are just slightly higher with the L48, but very little difference and I'm not sure were comparing same lift points. HP on L48 is 48, 37.5 pto, Displacement is 148.5, I believe the L48 is just a little heavier, again though its hard to say. My L4850 has about 450 hours, and is still instant starting even in our mildly cold weather. Hours do not go on by time used but rather like a Hobbs meter, that is, its variable depending on RPM. I can use my 4850 all day and only manage to get 3 to 4 hrs on the meter. If John is accurate in his auction prices, they must be well worn machines as the 4850 I have far exceeds that value. Is he quoting 4WD and loader? P.S. Kubotas backhoe numbers for those models were L5460 and 4540A. There were also 2 bucket styles available for the loader, the 5450 (LA 1150) had a L1772 and a round L1770, that was the heavy duty model. Rat...

Mark: Thanks for the info - seems like the L5450 was ahead of its time. It was too expensive at the time - there were more buyers interested in lighter and cheaper. But now Kubota is going stronger and heavier in the new models, and of course more money.

This L5450 HDT-W has 4WD, 17.5x24 rear, 12x16.5 front R4's, and all the features you listed - loader is LA1150 with the round-back bucket. The backhoe is a Bradco 11HD (not extending) and has replaceable bushings. I talked with the guy who bought it new in '95. He liked the wet clutch & shuttle the compact subframe on the hoe - doesn't stick down in the way. Hoe goes on and off quick. He had a york rake on a lot - so it hasn't had a hard life.

I like it. My wife even thinks it's "cute". I'm gonna buy it - must be Spring.....

Go for it, it's a workhorse and then some. You can't beat the engine thats in there but you already know that from your 4150 same style.

Gordon, I don't believe it is the same engine. I think the 4150 was a 4 cylinder while the 4850 and 5450 use a 5 cylinder. The 4150 had an optional wet clutch while the 4850 and 5450 came with the wet clutch or "Everclutch" as Kubota called it. I don't have the info with me so I could easily be inaccurate on the engine. I can tell you though that my L4850 is fantastic. It has top n tilt, a 1000+lb Gannon box scraper, Harley 8' power landscape rake, and a post hole auger with power down. Its a really super tractor, for a 1992 tractor it still looks and runs as good as new. Rat...

The 4150 is 5-cylinder 141.0 cubes (F2302-DI) with dry clutch and hydraulic shuttle. The hydraulic shuttle was an option - gear-type was standard. I'm posting these facts just in case anyone is looking at the ad over in Classified. Its a great unit. The 5450 is arriving today and I can'ty justify keeping both - I have a great wife but even she has limits !!
