    There is a simple answer

    Metal valve stems, the quality tire shops I visit use these on truck tires due to a higher psi rating, they also stay in the hole better.

    Don't forget to check the size of the hole, I believe there are 2 available sizes.

    saplings are no joke. I had a dog that went running and came back with a long gaping chest gash from running over a sapling Tough dog, she acted as if nothing was wrong other than licking it. Big vet bill and she had a "party hat" for weeks
