Default B4672 Backhoe

I have a chance to purchase a used B4672 Backhoe. Anybody have an idea what it would be worth. The tractor it is on has 450 hours on it. Backhoe was not used that many hours. Bucket with it is 16". Other than being able to only dig 6 ½' what other disadvantages would there be with this size Backhoe.

Ron,

I'd recommend the 4690 if the price difference isn't compelling. The deeper digging depth is one advantage, but I actually found the limited reach of the 6 1/2' hoe to be quite significant compared to a 7 1/2'. In my case I was comparing a Woods 6500 with a Kubota 4690. The longer reach means less repositioning of the tractor, the ability to dump material further away from the hole, and generally much more flexibility in how/where you work. If I recall correctly the 4690 has more bucket and dipper power too.

As for pricing, I found the Woods 6500 to be around $5500, the 4672 to be about $6300, and the 4690 to be only a little bit more than the 4672 (maybe $6900, but it's a guess). All prices are for new equipment.

Peter

What are you putting it on? Remember the 2400/2410 and smaller require the subframe (if you have a loader, it is already there). I am pretty sure the 4672 and the 4690 are the same digging power but the 4690 has a longer/deeper reach.

I have the 4672 (just got it with a 2400 tractor about a month ago) so have not had a lot of time on it yet but it seems good on what I have done.

A couple things to note. There is a special top link bracket and hi-strength pins that goes on when the tractor is fitted for the hoe. Make sure you get that bracket (there are differnt brackets though if your tractor is a different model. Also Kubota does not recommend using the regular ROPS as it is too short.

Review the manual before you by it so that you know what is needed to make it work for your tractor. the 4672 is NOT a 3ph unit that will go on any tractor. It was made for the Kubotas.

If you would like me to look up somthing specific in my manual, just ask...

I have a 2910 with folding ROPS and the heavy-duty top link bracket. The backhoe is currently mounted on a B2100. Nice little rig. Original owner bought a 2910 to replace it. From information I have been able to gather every thing is the same on the 4672 and 4690 except for the length of the two arms. I don't know if I will ever need the 90". I think the price for this unit will be around $3500. Hard to tell the difference between it and a new one. Trying to decide if I should wait for a 90" or go for the 72". I'm also waiting to see if the buyer for B2100 still does not want Backhoe.
Thanks for the reply.

According to my manual the digging force specs are exactly the same on the '72 and the '90. The only difference is the the size. The folding ROPS is higher so you are OK there. $3500 is a good price considering they are 6K+ new (bucket extra)

The only issue I had with mine is the toungue on the pump was worn and the dealer welded a new toungue on for me for a snug fit in the drawbar channel.

If you can buy the 4672 for $3.5k, is the extra 18" of digging depth/reach of the 4690 worth twice that (with tax)? You'd have to dig a lot of 7.5' trenches, IMO.

My thoughts are the same. When I can get an attachment for half price and I don't have to make a living with it. Price and time are on my side in this deal. I just need to get all parties together to compete purchase.

I have a 4672 with about 50 hours on it. I am happy with it based on the roughly $6 grand I paid for it. I have a 2710. If I was buying new again, I would definitely go for the 4690 for the extra reach, but used for 3500 is a STEAL. Grab it quick.
