Ok, guys.... I just found this post and am very suprised to hear there are others like me out there (usually this kind of stuff only happens to me ;) , or at least I thought until now). I bought my M7040 in August of 2006 with 12 hours on it and was shocked when the lights didn't work. I stopped by and asked the salesman, who quickly directed me to the service department. I asked them and they told me that there was a difference between the CAB and ROPS model. The ROPS model, which I bought, did not have those lights hooked up. That sounded strange to me so on my way out I asked the salesman if I could look at one on the lot and check it out. He told me sure so I checked the ROPS model and it worked just as it should. Now for the newbies interested in buying a tractor: The dealers at my location only install a FEL on the oldest tractor on the lot. The newer ones are there but they have no FEL installed so when they get ready to sell you one they say "Here's one just like you want and the the FEL is already installed!" I didn't realize this until the one I checked out, 1 week later, only had .6 hours and a new FEL. This tractor was sitting next to mine the previous week with no FEL.

Does anyone know what serial#'s of the FEL have the bad cyclinders? Here are my serial#'s.

Tractor 50059 (Light's don't work) Albeit the Glowplug does work but it took temps of <25 to finally turn it on.

FEL A0607

Disappointed in Arkansas,

Dan

Dan.

Some where in this thread I believe someone posted the affected serial numbers. Although Kubota claims a serial number cuttoff for the 4X4 lights, the preheat and the low fuel warning lights should work, at least that is according to the Kubota supplied owner's manual.

Have your dealer contact their Kubota rep and see if you have better luck than I have had so far getting Kubota to respond to your concern. Right now I'm just sitting back and waiting to see where this goes. I am a patient person, but at some point Kubota will start to feel the heat.

CONCERN: Some dealers and customers are confused about the 4-Wheel drive light on the dash panel. Some customers are noticing that the 4-Wheel drive light on their dash is NOT lighting when the tractor is in four wheel drive. Some of the later production models will have the 4-wheel drive light appear when the tractor is in four wheel drive. This is causing dealers and customers to wonder if the dash panel is operating correctly.

SOLUTION: The factory made running production change on M-40 series. They added four wheel drive monitoring to the M-40 series tractors. The serial number breaks for this production change are listed below. If your tractor’s model number is below the serial number break then the four drive light should not be seen on the dash panel.

These tractors have four wheel drive monitoring!
Model Number Serial Number
M5040DT/HD 50822 or higher
M6040DT/HD 50668 or higher
M7040DT/HD 51274 or higher
M8540DT/HD 50816 or higher
M9540DT/HD 51460 or higher

Looks to me that Kubota is saying this is a 4WD issue only. Thats it. You should not have problems with any other dash lights, if you do - then you have a leg to stand on to get it fixed. If not, your not just lacking the light - but the entire system. There is nothing wrong with the tractor, it was just shipped before this feature was added to these models.

There you go!!:D

By the way, I have 18 hours on my M7040 now and I love it more now than the day I met it!!:D Just got my grapple rake on and it looks like some sort of prehistoric beast now!

I talked to a fellow who had an M 6040 that he had to replace one of the cylinders. I will have to ask him about the dash lights.

Both cylinders need to be replaced per Kubota.

Any updates on the dash lights not working? I just bought a new M7040 but it is a 06 model and yes the dash lights do not work. Did Kubota ever do anything about it?

Kubota never adressed the issue and basically "Blew me off."
